The Score cluster system software is designed for the high performance cluster environment without using the TCP/IP protocol stack. It features high performance communication, efficient computer management and single-system image, higher usability and availabily, and a seamless cluster environment.
uLan Driver provides 9-bit character message- oriented communication protocol that is transferred over an RS-485 link. The physical layer consists of one twisted pair of leads, and RS-485 transceivers. Supported hardware includes OX16C954 PCI based add-on cards, USB-to-uLan converters, the i82510 RS-485 card, or simple active converter dongle for standard PC RS-232 ports. The whole set of libraries and support tools is available for building embedded devices. They range from low level firmware boot-loaders and debugging tools up to object oriented properties browsing and manipulation and process data communication channels mapping.
Streamline is a pipelined I/O subsystem for both kernel and application processing on Linux, with 40+ filters for pattern matching, stream reassembly, compression, etc. It exports the pipes, sockets, and pcap interfaces and uses shared memory to reduce I/O copy and context switch cost. Logical uses are rapid application development of intrusion detection systems and similar complex network processing tasks.
The FOLK project aims to provide a single patch which incorporates as many Linux kernel projects as can be crammed in. Its goal is to allow people who are interested in experimenting with the different projects to get on with the experimenting, rather than spend time fixing clashing diffs. It also has the goal of giving some of the more obscure projects a better chance of being seen and used. It is not intended for "general use". If a given release is stable, that will be by sheer luck. These are experimental projects, of unknown quality and completeness, being thrown together in ways that the developers are unlikely to have even remotely considered.
The Realtime Application Interface for Linux allows applications with strict timing constraints to be run on Linux. A real time system is able to guarantee the timing requirements of the processes under its control. RTAI provides an API and the necessary kernel modifications to accommodate such requirements.
v9fs provides a Plan 9 9P2000 resource sharing protocol for the Linux 2.6 kernel. This can be used to share files, devices, /proc, /sys, etc. It also works with Plan 9 file servers, and can be used to mount synthetic file systems from Plan 9 applications (see the plan9port project).
OWFS (One Wire Filesystem) allows easy control of the 1-Wire bus under Linux. The bus can either be viewed in a Web browser (OWHTTPD) or as files (OWFS). This makes manipulating the 1-wire devices easy with shell scripts, Perl, C, and other programming languages. 1-Wire devices are intriguing chips made by Dallas Semi. They are cheap, uniquely numbered, and take minimal wiring to connect (a data/power line and ground are all that's required. Chip functions include memory, switches, counters, and sensors of temperature and voltage.
OpenThinClient is a thin client solution consisting of a Linux-based operating system along with a comprehensive Java-based management GUI and server component. It is intended for environments where a medium to large number of thin clients must be supported and managed efficiently.
