The DocBook Authoring and Publishing Suite (DAPS) provides a tool set for easy creation and publication of DocBook sources on Linux. It lets you create HTML (including Webhelp), PDF, EPUB, man pages, and other formats with a single command. It automatically takes care of validating and filtering (profiling) your sources and automatically converts images into a format best suited for the output format. You can easily create profiled source tarballs for translation or review. DAPS supports authors by providing linkchecker, validator, spellchecker, and editor macros. It is well suited to manage large documentation projects with multiple authors using the DAPS docmanager.
backstep.py is a backup program that can be run in a directory. It makes a snapshot backup of the directory in a specified interval. The system backs up every file that has changed or was created in the specified interval. The user can restore a backup by telling the system to restore a backup that is a given amount of time old.
openSUSE Medical is a distribution of openSUSE made especially to address the needs of doctors. It is based on openSUSE 11.3. It is distributed in the form of ISO image files and VirtualBox/VMWare images. It includes carefully selected software for doctors' practices, clinical environments, and medical students. checkroot is an openSUSE equivalent of debsums. It enables retrieval of fingerprint updates online, allowing trusted verification of a root filesystem. This prevents a cracker from hiding his traces from "rpm --verify -a". If the verification fails, checkroot can download the package header containing the md5sums online. Alternatively, all md5sums can be fetched online (if you mistrust some of the fingerprints/private keys the locally stored md5sums are signed with).
FBAC-LSM is a security mechanism for Linux which retricts applications based on the features they provide, such as "Web Browser" or "Image Editor". By restricting the actions of applications, the damage which can be caused by malware or software vulnerabilities can be significantly reduced. Reusable policy abstractions, known as functionalities, can be used to grant the authority to perform high level features (for example using the Web_Browser functionality) or lower level features (such as using the HTTP_Client functionality) or to grant privileges to access any specified resources. Functionalities are parameterized, which allows them to be adapted to the needs of specific applications. Functionalities are also hierarchical; that is, functionalities can contain other functionalities.
