chkrootkit is a tool to locally check for signs of a rootkit. It contains a chkrootkit: shell script that checks system binaries for rootkit modification. The following tests are made: aliens, asp, bindshell, lkm, rexedcs, sniffer, wted, z2, amd, basename, biff, chfn, chsh, cron, date, du, dirname, echo, egrep, env, find, fingerd, gpm, grep, hdparm, su, ifconfig, inetd, inetdconf, identd, killall, login, ls, mail, mingetty, netstat, named, passwd, pidof, pop2, pop3, ps, pstree, rpcinfo, rlogind, rshd, slogin, sendmail, sshd, syslogd, tar, tcpd, top, telnetd, timed, traceroute, and write. ifpromisc.c checks whether the interface is in promiscuous mode, chklastlog.c checks for lastlog deletions, chkwtmp.c checks for wtmp deletions, check_wtmpx.c checks for wtmpx deletions (Solaris only), and chkproc.c checks for signs of LKM trojans.
xlife is a laboratory for experimenting with cellular automata. It supports loadable rulesets and palettes, different topologies, and up to 256-state cellular automata. It has rules and patterns for Life, Brian's Brain, Perrier's Loops, Langton's Ants and Loops, Wireworld, E.F. Codd's 1975 UCC automaton, some Prisoner's Dilemma games, and many others. It is very fast for step-by-step mode, bounded grid, and chaotic patterns. It has several unique features: a historical mode, a pseudocolor mode, and n-state statistics. It has been developed since 1989. The modern version of Xlife began its history in 2011.
ipcam is a motion detection and recording program for IP cameras. It reads a JPEG stream from the IP camera and tries to detect motion by comparing the images to each other and calculating differences in brightness and color. Once motion is detected, ipcam switches to recording mode and stores the JPEG images in separate files in a new directory. When recording is finished and no more motion is detected, ipcam can start an external program for further processing on the JPEG files.
