TeXtrace is a collection of scripts that convert any TeX font into a Type1 .pfb outline font immediately suitable for use with dvips, pdftex, Acroread, and many other programs. The main advantage of using Type1 fonts with TeX is that Acroread renders TeX's bitmap fonts ugly on screen, but it renders outline fonts beutifully and fast.

Spreadsheet::WriteExcel is a Perl module which can be used to create native Excel binary files. Formatted text and numbers can be written to multiple worksheets in a workbook. Formulas and functions are also supported. It is 100% Perl and doesn't require any Windows libraries or a copy of Excel. It will also work on the majority of Unix and Macintosh platforms. Generated files are compatible with Excel 97, 2000, 2002, and 2003, and with OpenOffice and Gnumeric. An older version also supports Excel 5/95.

Since September 9, 2001, the routines in Corel WordPerfect 8 for converting to and from Microsoft Word documents has not worked. This software is a very elegant fix for this problem. It will make the filters work again by placing a small "wrapper library" around three small utilities in the WordPerfect directory. It leaves your current WordPerfect installation unharmed.

Instead of just starting of applications, you can also select multiple files in the usual opendialog provided by KDE to open them in OpenOffice.org, use a history of recently opened files, configure the app to do one of the above described functions on a simple double click, and use the app to keep a hidden instance of OpenOffice.org in memory to achieve much shorter startup times of the OpenOffice.org modules.
