The goal of the StarOffice Converter project is to produce filters for StarOffice 5.x documents which convert them into plain text. It is meant to be similar to catdoc, ppthtml, and xls2csv, which work for MS Office documents. A search engine can use these filters to index .sdw files.

libwpd is a library designed to help process WordPerfect documents. It exposes a simple callback-based API (similar to SAX), allowing it to be easily plugged into any C or C++ application. It is used by recent versions of AbiWord and OpenOffice.org to provide WordPerfect file import.

The output includes the original document's headings as PDF bookmarks, and includes the original hyperlinks as PDF hyperlinks. Document meta-information (such as title, author, and keywords) is also added.

Pod::OOoWriter is a Perl module that converts text in POD format to OpenOffice.org Writer (.sxw) format. It uses an existing .sxw file as a template, searching for special tokens to identify which style should be applied to each POD directive.
