SCOP is a library for writing distributed applications. The functionality includes message-passing, events, and RPCs. It is primarily aimed at C++ programs on Linux, or Java anywhere. Much simpler than CORBA, it is easy to learn, general-purpose, fairly fast, thoroughly documented, complete, and free.
SDE for NetBeans is a UML modeling environment tightly integrated with NetBeans. It lets you draw all types of UML diagrams (use case diagram, class diagram, sequence diagram, activity diagram, etc.) in NetBeans, reverse source code (Java, C++, XML, XML Schema, CORBA IDL, etc.) to UML models, and generate Java source from UML diagrams. It features a Rational Rose importer, an XMI importer, HTML/PDF documentation generators, and plug-in and template support.
The SOAP to CORBA bridge/translator is written entirely in C++ and shows that it is indeed possible to do a generic translation of SOAP requests to CORBA method invocations and vice versa. This is implemented by using the CORBA Interface repository to match the incoming SOAP request to the corresponding CORBA service, build the dynamic invocation of the CORBA service, and generate the SOAP response (or possibly SOAP fault in the case of a CORBA user exception, for instance).
SPOPS (Simple Perl Object Persistence w/ Security) is a robust and powerful Perl module that allows you to serialize objects. It is unique in that it also allows you to apply security to these objects using a fairly simple but powerful scheme of users and groups. It's also unique in that for most objects, you will not need to write any code. All you need is a fairly simple configuration file, and you can have a class for your object ready to go, right out of thin air.
The Simple components for Ada library provides implementations of smart pointers for automatically collected objects (using reference counting), object persistence, unbounded and bounded arrays of smart pointers, generic unbounded arrays of private objects and plain pointers, generic sets, maps, directed graphs, directed weighted graphs, stacks, and storage pools. It also includes table management, string editing, IEEE 754 support, and infix expression parsing tools. Implementations of some lock-free shared data structures are provided.
Spif (Simplest Possible Infrastructure Framework) provides a simple API for model object access and uses a chain of responsibility to realize the infrastructure behind the interface. This means that you can write business code which accesses persistent, possibly remote objects without worrying about locking, distribution persistence, caching, etc. Using Spif, such features are easy to change later, without changing business code.
