Fing is a command line tool for network and service discovery. It provides you a complete view of any network in a very short time. Its smart discovery automatically detects the network type and uses the best technique to scan it. The best results are achieved on Ethernet networks (including Wireless ones), where Fing is able to detect all network hosts, firewalled ones included. The service discovery feature quickly detects active TCP services on a target host or network. Fing is based on Look@LAN.

FastFwD is a small daemon that allows users to set up port forwarding from a source IP address and port number to a target IP address and port number easily without the need to deal with complicated ipchains/iptables-rules. FastFwD offers a fault-proof possibility for port forwarding between two networks or IP addresses and additionally gives the possibility to password-protect this connection. FastFwD has been tested for Linux and QNX and should compile and work with all POSIX-based systems.

Dandelion is a 3D graph rendering application which can be controlled across a network. Its main purpose is to allow clear network graphs to be rendered in a window, which can be controlled by a separate application or the user. The Dandelion visualization is actually controlled by issuing simple commands to it across the network (although this could all be happening on a single machine). The Dandelion source includes a set of very simple libraries which can be incorporated into other applications and which can be used to send these commands. Libraries are included for C, C#, Java, and Python. The project was developed at Liverpool John Moores University within the PROTECT Centre.
