Mutabor is a program that allows you to perform and compose microtonal music using a normal MIDI keybord and normal MIDI equipment. Its powerful description language is intended to allow permanent retunings and complex tuning logic. One application is just tuning. Mutabor has been used for this purpose to make available all pitches that can be reached by stacking perfect thirds and perfect fifths. The stable version 3.0x is available in German only and runs under Windows and Wine. The unstable branch can be accessed via CVS (but build bugs should be expected) or downloaded from the Berlios developer site.
Nextls is a console application that keeps track of your music collection using a MySQL database to store information such as length, bitrate, metadata, and where on the hard drive it is located. When Nextls is launched, it will figure out any changes done since the previous run and update the database accordingly. The database is very simple to work with, and there also exists a sister project in Nx2 that will allow you to take your database online and stream your music from a Web browser.
Syncables Desktop enables you to easily sync, migrate, access, and publish content between Windows, Mac, and Linux PCs and portable storage devices. More than just documents, it syncs your music, photos, videos, email, and even browser bookmark "favorites". It automatically recognizes other Syncables PCs on a network, making it very easy to collaborate on documents or share media between PCs. You can even turn your network into a virtual media hub, with shared media accessible for playback on any Syncables networked PC. Popular Websites like Facebook, YouTube, and SmugMug are also integrated right into the application, so once you are signed in, you have automatic access to your online account with these sites. Just drag selected media to the Website icon for auto-upload, or click on the Website icon and play back all your posted media right from within Syncables Desktop.
morituri is a CD ripper that aims for accuracy over speed. Its features are modeled to compare with Exact Audio Copy on Windows. It features support for MusicBrainz for metadata lookup, support for AccurateRip verification, support for cdparanoia, detection of sample read offset of drives, the ability to test and copy a rip, the ability to detect and rip Hidden Track One Audio, templates for file and directory naming, and tagging using GStreamer. Currently, it only supports lossless encoding and only has a command line client.
Impro-Visor is a music notation and playback tool for helping jazz musicians learn to improvise. It features a notation GUI, automated playback of chords and rhythm using MIDI, and improvisation advice provided in a variety of ways, including being able to improvise jazz itself. Data are stored as open-format text files. MIDI and MusicXML export are also available.
Cuberok is a music player and collection manager with a lightweight interface. It supports music collections, CUE sheets, Shoutcast/icecast streams, a Last.FM and Libre.FM scrobbler, downloading images for albums and artists from Last.FM, information about artists from Last.FM, and lyrics from LyricWiki.org, automatic ratings for songs, and support for many playlists at one time.
