Lynkeos processes astronomical webcam images. By stacking the best images, the signal to noise ratio is increased, and details lost in the noise of individual images become visible in the resulting image. This software accepts, as input, QuickTime, AVI, and MPEG sequences, or still images, in any image format supported by its active plugins (TIFF, FITS) and Cocoa. It generates a 16-bit RGB TIFF or a monochrome FITS image as output, to be further processed with some all-purpose image processing application.
The Noble Ape Simulation is a collection of a number of autonomous simulation components including a landscape simulation, biological simulation, weather simulation, sentient creature (Noble Ape) simulation, and a simple intelligent-agent scripting language (ApeScript). Noble Ape also contains a social simulation where the Noble Apes can be tracked in terms of social groups and also over many generations to explain social phenomenon to users looking to study this kind of interaction. It has been in development for more than a fifteen years.
Open Tool Kit (Otk) is a portable widget library for making graphical user interfaces for C programs. It emphasizes simplicity for the application programmer without eliminating capability. Based on OpenGL, Otk supports Linux, Unix, and other OSs neutrally and efficiently. It is simple and compact, and it strives for easy compilation and linking to other applications. In seeking to address several issues associated with earlier graphics APIs, Otk explores some interesting methods, such as window-relative layout instead of pixel-based layout.
gipfel is a tool to find the names of mountains or points of interest on a picture. It uses a database containing names and GPS data. With the given viewpoint (the point from which the picture was taken) and two known mountains on the picture, it can compute all parameters needed to compute the positions of other mountains on the picture. gipfel can also generate (stitch) panorama images.
Aeskulap is a medical image viewer. It is able to load a series of special images stored in the DICOM format for review. It is able to query and fetch DICOM images from archive nodes (also called PACS) over the network. The goal of this project is to create a full open source replacement for commercially available DICOM viewers. It is based on gtkmm, glademm, and gconfmm and designed to run under Linux. Ports of these packages are available for different platforms. It should be quite easy to port It to any platform were these packages are available.
Freeverb3 is a signal processing library. It includes many types of audio processing effects and signal generators including a linear feedback shift register (LFSR) maximum length sequence (MLS) generator, multiple types of high quality mono+stereo reverb effects, a multi slot impulse response processor, multiband hardknee+softknee compressor and limiter, a stereo enhancer, a limiter, and many types of infinite impulse respose (IIR) and finite impulse response (FIR) filters. Also available is Freeverb3VST, a VST effects plugins package based on the Freeverb3 library.
white_dune is a graphical VRML97/X3DV editor, simple NURBS/Superformula 3D modeller, animation tool, and VRML97/X3DV commandline compiler in development. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language) is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins ("HTML for realtime 3D"). X3DV is the direct successor of VRML97. VRML97 and X3DV have support for animation, real-time interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can read, create, and display VRML97/X3DV files and let the user change the scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via "quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Blender is a free 3D animation studio. It includes tools for modeling, sculpting, texturing (painting, node-based shader materials, or UV mapped), UV mapping, rigging and constraints, weight painting, particle systems, simulation (fluids, physics, and soft body dynamics and an external crowd simulator), rendering, node-based compositing, and non linear video editing, as well as an integrated game engine for real-time interactive 3D, and game creation and playback with cross-platform compatibility.
