The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts. The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins, PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.
TerminatorX is a realtime audio synthesizer that allows you to "scratch" on digitally sampled audio data (*.wav, *.au, *.mp3, etc.) the way hiphop-DJs scratch on vinyl records. It features multiple turntables, realtime effects (built-in as well as LADSPA plugin effects), a sequencer, and an easy-to-use GTK+ GUI.
AlsaPlayer is a new PCM player written with the ALSA sound system in mind. It also includes support for JACK, OSS, NAS, and ESD. It makes extensive use of multi-threading and supports OGG, MP3, WAV, CDDA (CD Digital Audio), MOD, S3M, IT, and many other input types. Features include a real- time effects stream, variable speed/pitch control, SHOUTcast/icecast streaming support, multiple active visual scopes, command line mode, playlists, plugin architecture, low-latency mode, and more.
Qsynth is a GUI front-end application for Fluidsynth. Fluidsynth is a command-line software synthesizer based on the Soundfont specification. Qsynth was built with the Qt4 toolkit using Qt Designer. Eventually it may evolve into a softsynth management application that allows the user to control and manage a variety of command line softsynths, but it currently just wraps the excellent Fluidsynth program.
PHP Voice (formerly known as PHP VXML) contain four classes that assist in developing voice application using PHP. It supports Speech Synthesis Markup Language 1.0, Speech Recognition Grammar Specification 1.0, Voice Browser Call Control: CCXML 1.0, and Voice Extensible Markup Language (VoiceXML) 2.0.
Beast is a powerful music composition and modular synthesis application. It offers multiple input methods like multitrack, piano roll, and pattern editing and supports skins. Hydrogen is a simple real-time Drum machine/sequencer. It features a graphical user interface based on Qt, a sample-based audio engine, Jack/ALSA/OSS/PortAudio and Export to disk audio drivers, ALSA MIDI input, ability to import/export XML-based song and drumkit files, 192 ticks per pattern, 16 voices with volume, mute, solo, ADSR, and pan capabilities, and import of samples in wave, au, and aiff format.
FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications. It can read MIDI events from MIDI input devices or files and render them to an audio device using SoundFont instrument banks. It can also play MIDI files. Other features include real time effect control and a powerful API for embedding FluidSynth in other programs.
Aglaophone is a system of interconnectable modules for the recording, processing, and playback of real-time audio. It features a real-time spectrogram display for visualization along with a number of processing modules. Modules include filters, downsamplers, upsamplers, and quantizers. An MP3 comparison module allows interactive blind comparison of MP3 encoded audio with CD audio, demonstrations of spectral imaging, quantization, and Smith-Barnwell filter bank based wavelet decomposition are included, and there is a module that can perform an automatic spectral analysis of a speaker system.
