MV3D is a virtual world and multi-player game framework for use with Python. It was designed with scalability in mind and is able to distribute a world across as many servers as needed while dynamically balancing the load. The simulation framework is not specifically slanted towards any one genre of online game or virtual world, and can just as easily be used for a space game as a fantasy setting. Objects on an MV3D server can be simulated using the ODE physics engine for realistic interactions. A single server is able to host thousands of of simulated objects. The client works with both the Ogre3D and Panda3D renderers.
The Second Life Viewer is the client for logging into the Second Life 3-D virtual world, where residents explore, purchase virtual land, open businesses, build real estate, and create scripted objects such as cars, robots, or magic wands. Second Life residents retain full intellectual property rights for the digital content they create and upload, including avatar characters, clothing, scripts, textures, objects, and designs.
Deliantra is a client for Deliantra game servers. It offers an intuitive user interface for exploring the vast game world, a persistent minimap, powerful macros and keymaps, dialog-based NPC interaction, and easy configuration for the skill, spell, and item system. It is based on Perl, SDL, and OpenGL for high performance on modern systems, and works on both Unix and Windows. Ports to other platforms should be very easy and are underway.
Lich is a cross-platform multithreaded interpreter meant exclusively for use with text-based MUDs. Its primary goal is to provide a dynamic and extensible framework that offers advanced users the ability to customize the application and its functionality to their needs while remaining accessible and useful to the majority of players. It supports scripting in Ruby, Simutronics "Wizard", and, in Unix environments, any language with an interpreter program.
Deliantra is an advancement of the crossfire multi-user RPG game. Unlike the original project, it focuses mainly on stability and playability, but also adds modern technology such as map scripting, Perl server extensions, asynchronous I/O, higher resolution graphics, and better client support.
