Mp3Make is a program that automates the ripping and encoding of CD audio to mp3 files. Since the programs commonly used in linux to do this are seperate, it made sense to make a glue program to make life easier. This is supplemented by downloading a cd track list from a cddb server, and using that to name the files being created.

Paloma is a program to manage an SQL database of digital music files, and facilitate their retrieval and playback in interesting ways. It works with music files of any form -- MP3, Ogg Vorbis, MIDI... whatever you've got a player for. Paloma makes it easy to rip your entire CD collection and store it on your hard disk (or a collection of CD-Rs) for instant random access; playlists can then be generated using arbitrary SQL commands.

T.E.A.R. (pronounced Tair) is a console-based frontend for common MP3/OGG creation tools which automates all of the settings involved in ripping and encoding a CD. TEAR uses the CDDB database at freedb.org to name, organize, and add ID3 tags to each encoded file. It can use either cdparanoia or cdda2wav to rip .WAV files from the CD and it can use lame, bladeenc, gogo, or OggEnc to encode them. TEAR also supports SMP.

mpg321 is a Free clone of mpg123, a command-line MP3 player. It is designed to be a drop-in replacement for mpg123, and therefore its interface has been designed around that of mpg123, without using any of its code. mpg321 has been designed for use with frontends such as gqmpeg, although it is just as useful on the command-line. Unlike mpg123, it supports ESD and ALSA output without recompiling, and it does all MP3 decoding with only fixed-point math by using the mad MPEG audio decoder library.
