mod_backhand is a load balancing module for Apache. It provides per-request HTTP redirection within a heterogeneous Apache server cluster. Each request is processed and run through a set of "candidacy functions" to determine which server is best suited to respond. The request is then proxied to that server. Facilities are in place to allow you to write your own dynamically loadable decision making algorithms. Everything about the request and the current availability of resources can be used in the decision-making process.
mon is a tool for monitoring the availability of services and sending alerts on prescribed events. Services are defined as anything tested by a "monitor" program, which can be something as simple as pinging a system, or as complex as analyzing the results of an application-level transaction. Alerts are actions such as sending email, making submissions to ticketing systems, or triggering resource fail-over in a high-availability cluster.
Monit is a utility for managing and monitoring processes, programs, files, directories, and devices on a Unix system. It conducts automatic maintenance and repair and can execute meaningful causal actions in error situations. It can be used to monitor files, directories, and devices for changes, such as timestamps changes, checksum changes, or size changes. It is controlled via an easy to configure control file based on a free-format, token-oriented syntax. It logs to syslog or to its own log file and notifies users about error conditions via customizable alert messages. It can perform various TCP/IP network checks, protocol checks, and can utilize SSL for such checks. It provides an HTTP(S) interface for access.
Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python, Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the thresholds functionality includes emails and user defined scripts. Monitored data can be archived in a SQL database by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over time can be made available from Web pages or common spreadsheet software. It can even be used for future behavior prediction or capacity planning, from the included predictor tool, based on powerful statistical methods and artificial neural networks.
MotionView is a Java application that allows you to view, scan, fast-forward, and reverse through the images captured by the Motion motion-detection and video capture software for Video4Linux. It also lets you archive the images to a backup directory, or erase them with a single button click after you view them.
mrtg-misc-probe probes different system features for mrtg to graph. It can probe percent usage of disk space and inodes for UFS and VxFS filesystems, number and total size of incoming and outgoing mail messages on a sendmail mail server, network delay using NTP peers/servers, number of clearcase vobs and views, number of Rational ClearCase and MultiSite licenses available and used, network device reachability (ping success), number of active and disconnected sessions of a Citrix Metaframe server, and number of hosts in a given network range.
