bcnu is a Web-based system management tool which delivers information on the status of networked systems in a simple and easy-to-use manner. It uses a web browser to display information about hosts in a tabular form. Historical information can be held indefinitely, and there is a powerful query tool available to interrogate it. Client systems can run an agent which logs information back to a central system. An agent scheduler is integrated to allow agents to be run at different intervals. Standard agents include ftp, http, disk space, logfiles, processes, and more.
The Event monitor project is an approach to network management based on message passing between manager and managed nodes. It's based on a client/server platform, where the server is the manager node, and all clients are managed nodes. This tool is under development, but has lots of features implemented, like a graphical console, message passing layer, one disk monitor and clients for sending messages (both API and binary forms are provided).
The ipaudit package records and displays network activity. It is useful for identifying heavy bandwidth users, intrusive telnet sessions, denial of service attacks, and scans. It includes ipaudit, which stores counts of bytes and packets for every combination of host/port pairs and protocol. The utilities total and ipstrings can be used to investigate network traffic records from the command line. ipaudit-web can collect network traffic statistics and generate Web reports.
Ledcontrol is a program that shows information on the normally-unused LEDs on your keyboard. You can configure it to show virtually any TRUE/FALSE condition or arbitrary value accessible. Features include blinking LEDs, priority levels, user-made animations, a GTK+ interface, etc. Ledcontrol works both in X and on a text console.
Heartbeat is a full-function high-availability system for Linux and other POSIX-like OSes. It monitors services and restarts them on errors. When managing a cluster (more than 1 machine), it will also monitor the members of the cluster and begin recovery of lost services in less than a second. It runs over serial ports and UDP broadcast/multicast, as well as OpenAIS multicast. It is easily adapted to different interconnect media and protocols. When used in a cluster, it can operate using shared disks, data replication, or no data sharing. Versions starting with 2.0 are comparable to any commercial HA package, providing resource monitoring, larger clusters, and detailed dependency information.
mrtg-misc-probe probes different system features for mrtg to graph. It can probe percent usage of disk space and inodes for UFS and VxFS filesystems, number and total size of incoming and outgoing mail messages on a sendmail mail server, network delay using NTP peers/servers, number of clearcase vobs and views, number of Rational ClearCase and MultiSite licenses available and used, network device reachability (ping success), number of active and disconnected sessions of a Citrix Metaframe server, and number of hosts in a given network range.
Paralogger is a script to "tail" the system logs in borderless transparent Eterm(s). Its purpose is to make setting up a "root tail" an easy set and forget. Paralogger makes the placement of the terminals (geometry) more friendly for the user by detecting the screen resolution and calculating the geometry of the terminals automatically. It can also load or save a configuration file.
Treeps is program for Unix/Linux that is designed to make monitoring and interacting with the running programs on your system easy and intuitive. A "real time" tree view shows the relationships between the processes and is color-coded to provide easy interpretation of various values. The process tree displays any combination of users/groups and can be used to drill down into process details and then extract key fields for continuous monitoring. A number of actions can be performed on processes, such as signal, renice, trace, view man page, etc.
Lire is a pluggable log analyzer. It has analyzers for over 25 log file formats, ranging from Apache WWW log files to iptables firewall logs and CUPS printing logs. Reports are generated in 9 different output formats, ranging from Excel 95 to PDF to HTML, optionally with included graphs.
