The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts. The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins, PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.
L7-filter is a packet classifier for Netfilter that identifies packets based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of ports. It complements existing matches that classify based on port numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.
grsecurity is a complete security system for Linux 2.4 and 2.6 that implements a detection/prevention/containment strategy. It prevents most forms of address space modification, confines programs via its Role-Based Access Control system, hardens syscalls, provides full-featured auditing, and implements many of the OpenBSD randomness features. It was written for performance, ease-of-use, and security. The RBAC system has an intelligent learning mode that can generate least privilege policies for the entire system with no configuration. All of grsecurity supports a feature that logs the IP of the attacker that causes an alert or audit.
Moodss is a modular monitoring application, which supports operating systems (Linux, UNIX, Windows, etc.), databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, DB2, ODBC, etc.), networking (SNMP, Apache, etc.), and any device or process for which a module can be developed (in Tcl, Python, Perl, Java, and C). An intuitive GUI with full drag'n'drop support allows the construction of dashboards with graphs, pie charts, etc., while the thresholds functionality includes emails and user defined scripts. Monitored data can be archived in a SQL database by both the GUI and the companion daemon, so that complete history over time can be made available from Web pages or common spreadsheet software. It can even be used for future behavior prediction or capacity planning, from the included predictor tool, based on powerful statistical methods and artificial neural networks.
openMosix is a a set of extensions to the standard Linux kernel allowing you to build a cluster of out of off-the-shelf PC hardware. openMosix scales perfectly up to thousands of nodes. You do not need to modify your applications to benefit from your cluster (unlike PVM, MPI, Linda, etc.). Processes in openMosix migrate transparently between nodes and the cluster will always auto-balance.
dstat is a versatile replacement for vmstat, iostat, netstat, nfsstat, and ifstat. It includes various counters (in separate plugins) and allows you to select and view all of your system resources instantly; you can, for example, compare disk usage in combination with interrupts from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).
mpt-status is a query tool for accessing the running configuration and status of LSI SCSI HBAs. It is a heavily modified version of the original mpt-status-1.0 tool written by Matt Braithwaite. It allows you to monitor the health and status of your RAID setup. Currently supported and tested HBAs are the LSI 1030 SCSI RAID storage controller and LSI SAS1064 SCSI RAID storage controller. Since the tool uses the MPI (message passing interface), chances are high that the basic information regarding RAID status will be available for all LSI-based controllers.
