The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts. The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins, PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.
StreamBOX-LiveCD is a KNOPPIX-based boot CD which is specially designed to stream MP3s. It also includes some programs to stream in the Ogg Vorbis format, to cut audio, to view video and video streams, and to perform other similar tasks. It is intended to be used at smaller radio stations.
XO Wave is a digital audio workstation designed to meet the needs of audio and video professionals, with a focus on CD mastering and audio for video work. XO Wave provides professional-grade capabilities for manipulating audio, with a familiar and elegant interface. It supports direct recording from any Core Audio device (ALSA/Jack/OSS on Linux), importing and exporting files in a variety of formats (including songs from iTunes playlists), CD burning, multi-track editing, support for many Audio Units, and QuickTime synchronization and export.
somaplayer is music player for MP3, Ogg, wav, audio CDs, MP3 streams, and Ogg streams. It is able to use the appropriate sound drivers or demons or to stream directly to an Icecast server (Icecast2 or SHOUTcast) or to encode in MP3 and Ogg Vorbis. It also acts as a sound daemon that is able to accept connections from other somaplayers or any other sound player (xmms, mpg123, and others) thanks to a special wrapper.
Znap is a small network audio mixing daemon. It can load streams supported by the fmod library (Ogg MP3, WAV, etc.) and mix them together. It can be controlled via TCP or XML-RPC. It supports playlists and has an SQLite backend. Future releases will provide scheduling capabilities, making it able to act like radio automation software.
Recording level monitor records analog audio from the sources you choose and plays it back simultaneously so that you can hear it, while monitoring the loudness (input) level of the recording. You'll be able to hear and see whether the volume is too high (introducing analog distortion and digital clipping) or too low (letting through background noise and hiss) on your audio gear.
