Virus Update Server (vsuserver) helps you maintain an updated mirror of the antivirus updates from the McAfee/Network Associates servers without having to download the entire list of updates every time a new antivirus update is available. It mirrors all the files needed for serveral OSes, and it also includes a FAQ on how to configure clients to update for their version of the product.
rfs is a shell script for creating and updating a local spare system disk. The main goal is to recover a working system after a crash quickly. In this case, "quickly" means the time it takes to reboot the machine. rfs stands for "replication of filesystems". Like rsyncbackup, rfs is built on top of rsync.
cleansweep is a set of scripts that help you clean duplicated files from your system. md5dir.sh gathers information on files in a directory. md5dirs.sh gathers information on files in multiple directories. samefiles.sh processes the data and generates information on file duplicates, filename duplicates, and unique files. clean_samefiles.sh cleans the files.
rsync-incr is a Linux wrapper shell (bash) script around rsync to perform automated, unattended, incremental, disk to disk backups, automatically removing old backups to make room for new ones. It produces standard mirror copies that are browsable and restorable without specific tools.
Clonezilla is a partition or disk cloning tool similar to Symantec Ghost. It saves and restores only blocks in use on the hard drive if the file system is supported. For unsupported file systems, dd is used instead. It has been used to clone a 5 GB system to 40 clients in about 10 minutes.
The Zumastor Linux storage project adds enterprise storage features to Linux, primarily improved snapshots and remote replication. Point-in-time, near zero-cost, block level snapshots can be added to any existing filesystem and performance does not degrade with multiple snapshots. Remote replication is achieved by sending minimal block level deltas between snapshots without having to traverse the entire filesystem like rsync does.
wget can be used to download a Web site, with all pages referenced by the originating one, but it saves all pages in a directory tree (or single directory). The intention of web-archive-creator is to join the power of wget and the usability of the .war format, which Konqueror is able to browse. The Web ARrchive format is simply a tarred and gzipped file containing the Web files. The web-archive-creator script performs the download with wget and writes an index.html linking to the starting pages/URLs wget fetched.
TRIXER creates catalogs of transparent file indexes. A transparent file index is an exact mirror of a directory, except that each of its file is void, thus "taking no space", while apparently having the same size of its indexed counterpart so as to describe it fully. This is accomplished by combining sparse files support with fusecompress on-the-fly compression technology. This is useful for many purposes, e.g. creating a catalog of your CD/DVD-ROM library to browse its contents without having to physically access it. The advantage of this software is that a TRIXER catalog is a plain mountable ext2 filesystem, allowing enhanced interoperability with the huge lot of available software to handle the catalog in a number of ways.
