Thinksynth is a modular synthesizer. It uses the JACK Audio Connection Kit for sound input and output, and ALSA for MIDI processing. Instruments are created with .dsp files, which define a network of Thinksynth modules using a simple interpreted language. A collection of example .dsp files is available in the source distribution.
Freecycle is a beat slicer providing amplitude domain and frequency domain beat matching and zero crossing algorithms. It exports sliced audio chunks and generates a MIDI file which can be used to play the sliced loop. Alternatively, you can jam with it as soon as you've made slices using a MIDI keyboard or sequencer. Freecycle also exports AKAI S5000/S6000/Z4/Z8 .AKP files to be used with your favorite sampler, SoundFont files, and supports slice drag and drop from the application to the desktop. It can process the audio inline using LADSPA effects, as well as applying envelopes to seperate slices.
KMetronome is a MIDI metronome with KDE interface, based on the ALSA sequencer. The intended audience is musicians and music students. Like solid, real metronomes it is a tool to keep the rhythm while playing musical instruments. It uses MIDI for sound generation instead of digital audio, allowing low CPU usage, and very accurate timing thanks to the ALSA sequencer.
FMS is a tool to create all kinds of sounds from scratch. You can play any sound (sine, triangular, vowels, etc.) with any property settings (frequency, volume, balance, sweep, etc.) and modulations thereof. It also features tools to save sounds, play .MUS music, graphically display sounds, and make real noise.
Wechselspieler is a tool for mapping motion data from a video stream onto sound events in the MIDI and OSC protocols. It features a GUI for easy selection of trigger regions in a video stream and mapping these to individual sound events. It supports various video input sources, such as Video4Linux devices, movie files, and FireWire cameras. As output, it supports ALSA based MIDI devices and the UDP based OSC (OpenSoundControl) protocol for integration with MIDI hard/software and OSC-capable software like PD, SuperCollider, and Max/MSP.
