Twibright Syntring is a purely algorithmic string synthesizer with ASCII tab input and wav output. It doesn't use any samples, yet sounds quite realistic. Timbre, volume, and timing are adjustable in the tab file. It can be used for learning or practicing guitar or bass playing, for editing and synthesizing one's own tunes, or producing MIDI sound fonts. It is very lightweight and portable, and doesn't require any libraries.

Minicomputer is a standalone Linux realtime software synthesizer for creating experimental electronic sounds as they are often used in but not limited to industrial music, IDM, EBM, Glitch, sound design, and minimal electronic. It is monophonic but can produce up to 8 different sounds at the same time, so its good e.g. for drum synthesis. It uses JACK as a real-time audio infrastructure and can be controlled via MIDI. The synthesis is advanced subtractive: two oscillators generate complex waveforms going into a morphing formant filter. An additional oscillator, 7 envelopes, a delay line, and flexible modulation routing for each sound voice gives the sound designer possibilities like a modular synthesizer without the hassle. Instant recall with 512 sound programs and 128 multi sets make it a good companion for the next laptop gig.

Algoscore is a graphical environment for algorithmic composition, where music is constructed directly in an interactive graphical score. The result is output to MIDI and CSound. Graphical objects are placed in a timeline and connected together. Some objects are fully dependent on user data, while some are generative and reacts on input from other objects. It is highly customizable and extensible with the Nasal scripting language. It has a non-realtime perspective where the composer can relate freely to time and construct the composition outside of time. This makes AlgoScore more like a traditional sequencer in this regard, but a graphical algorithmic sequencer with powerful and flexible scripting capabilities.

Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard is a MIDI event generator and receiver. It doesn't produce any sound by itself, but can be used to drive a MIDI synthesizer (either hardware or software, internal or external). You can use the computer's keyboard or mouse to play MIDI notes. You can use the Virtual MIDI Piano Keyboard to display the played MIDI notes from another instrument or MIDI file player.

PianoBooster is a program that teaches you how to play the piano as well as the basics of reading musical notation. PianoBooster can play any MIDI files, listens and reacts to what you are playing on a MIDI keyboard. It makes sight reading music fun. It can make use of the "light keyboard" or "guide lamp" feature found in some keyboards, such as Yamaha EZ-200, Casio LK 220, LK-300 TV, and LK-43. Keyboards with this feature can cause specific keys to glow. PianoBooster can use this feature to show beginners which keys to press at any given time, even if they can't read musical notation.

MIDI Sight Reader is an online music application (mupplet) inspired by its predecessor, the original MidiFlashCard system. The application scrolls both piano notes and guitar tablature. Notes are played for audio confirmation as they pass under the centerline on the window. The scrolling staffs drive a keyboard model and a guitar neck model. The guitar and keyboard can drive each other as well, for interactive exploration of the correspondence between the two instruments. The 3 components, staff, keyboard and guitar, can be independently added and removed from the top down, so many combinations of layout can be achieved.

Scenic is a free software suite for streaming audio, video, and MIDI between live events. It was created at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) to give artists a powerful tool for telepresence in live arts contexts, and new media installations. The streaming is done over RTP with the GStreamer multimedia framework. Users can also choose low-bandwidth or high-quality codecs, depending on what is available on their system. It offers up to as many audio channels as your audio device supports. It consists of a desktop application and several command-line utilities: scenic (a Desktop application to stream audio, video, and MIDI over RTP); milhouse (streams audio and video over RTP); midistream (streams MIDI notes and controls over RTP); dc-ctl (controls connected DC IEEE 1394 cameras); firereset (resets an IEEE 1394 bus to help in case of problems); and jack-info (prints information about running JACK servers).
