Algoscore is a graphical environment for algorithmic composition, where music is constructed directly in an interactive graphical score. The result is output to MIDI and CSound. Graphical objects are placed in a timeline and connected together. Some objects are fully dependent on user data, while some are generative and reacts on input from other objects. It is highly customizable and extensible with the Nasal scripting language. It has a non-realtime perspective where the composer can relate freely to time and construct the composition outside of time. This makes AlgoScore more like a traditional sequencer in this regard, but a graphical algorithmic sequencer with powerful and flexible scripting capabilities.
Renoise is a sophisticated music sequencer and audio processing application. It's an all-in-one music production environment for your personal computer. Based on MOD tracker software, its primary use is the composition of music using samples, (in WAV, AIFF, FLAC, Ogg, and MP3 format), plug-ins, and MIDI/OSC sequencing of VSTi/AudioUnits soft synths.
Schnolgo is a musical composition system. It has a number of unique features, including a way of handling polyrhythmic timing which provides a flexibility one cannot easily achieve with traditional sequencing programs or sound programming environments. Currently, Schnolgo is in the form of a Python package, and its main output format for compositions written in it is MIDI.
Twibright Syntring is a purely algorithmic string synthesizer with ASCII tab input and wav output. It doesn't use any samples, yet sounds quite realistic. Timbre, volume, and timing are adjustable in the tab file. It can be used for learning or practicing guitar or bass playing, for editing and synthesizing one's own tunes, or producing MIDI sound fonts. It is very lightweight and portable, and doesn't require any libraries.
bcr beats is a beat slicer that lets you cut up and play with an audio sample: you can trigger slices and loops with MIDI or the mouse and keyboard, set pan, volume, and sample rate values, and generally have lots of fun. The interface is based on the Behringer BCR2000 MIDI controller, which means lots of knobs. It can be used with or without a controller.
OrganDesigner is a graphical tool for editing and configuring virtual pipe organs. OrganDesigner can read SoundFont files and can both read and write organ description files for use by the virtual organ MIDI player GENPO. OrganDesigner users can copy, move, and delete stops, both within and between divisions; use the Stops Editor to change a stop's name, MIDI bank, program, and velocity; use the Divisions Editor to make new divisions, change a division's name and MIDI channel, change the order of divisions, and delete divisions; use the Couplers Editor to add, modify, and delete couplers; use the Pistons Editor to add, modify, and delete combinations, and to store and recall the stops set for each piston.
KTabEdit is a guitar tablature editor for KDE. It includes many effects and classical note score editing for classic instrument players, customizable MIDI to tablature import and export, support for extra data formats (such as ASCII tablature or Guitar Pro/TablEdit), chord fingering construction tools, a chord finder, and a chord analyzer. It is highly customizable to suit a lot of possible instruments (not only 6-stringed guitars, and even not only guitars), including drum tracks, lyrics, and other MIDI events.
