The NCBI C++ Toolkit provides portable libraries and applications for assisting genetic science. These include libraries for networking, SQL and BerkeleyDB access, CGI and HTML handling, ASN.1 and XML handling, sequence alignment engines, sequence retrieval engines, BLAST database engines, FLTK and OpenGL graphics toolkits, and basic system utilities.
FreeMED is a Web-based medical records (EMR) and patient management system with a printing system, patient scheduling, an HL7 interface, a billing system, XML-RPC Web services, and many other features. It has an extensible modular architecture, allowing it to be customized based on individual practices without having to rewrite core components of the system. It is HIPAA compliant.
HapCluster++ is a software package for linkage disequilibrium mapping using coalescent theory. It is based on a Bayesian Markov-chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for fine-scale linkage-disequilibrium gene mapping using high-density marker maps. HapCluster++ is a C++ implementation of the method described in the paper "Fine Mapping of Disease Genes via Haplotype Clustering" by E.R.B. Waldron, J.C. Whitaker, and D.J. Balding. Genetic Epidemiology. 30: 170–179. (2006).
Engauge Digitizer is digitizing software that converts an image showing a graph or map into numbers. The image file can come from a scanner, digital camera, or screenshot. The numbers can be read on the screen, and written or copied to a spreadsheet. Highlights for beginners include an intuitive interface and extensive context-sensitive documentation. Highlights for experts include compensation for image distortion, cartesian and polar coordinates, linear and logarithmic coordinates, automatic scanning, graphical previews, and browser help.
Cell Electrophysiology Simulation Environment is a framework to perform electrophysiological simulations. It can, for example, simulate cardiac myocyte electrical activity. It is useful for simulations of action potentials, individual ionic currents, and changes in ionic concentrations.
REMITT Electronic Medical Information Translation and Transmission is a standalone electronic medical billing solution. It works independent of any specific electronic medical record (EMR) or practice management (PM) system, and can interface with any EMR or PM system that implements its API. The first system to do so is FreeMED.
