fakehermes is a small, lightweight fake SMTP server. It's useful as a way to avoid spam by configuring your domains to point their secondary SMTP server to a fakehermes server. It will log not only the email messages involved, but also how they are trying to send email and whether they should be considered spam or not. This information can be used to "profile" the spammers that send you spam and can allow you to configure or tune other spam filters. It supports SPF and RBL checking.
hermes is a generic, transparent and multi-platform anti-spam SMTP proxy that uses a combination of techniques (like greylisting, throttling, DNS white/blacklisting, SPF, etc.) to stop spam from reaching your mailbox. Many mailboxes see a 98% spam reduction with no false positives, as hermes is not filtering email based on content, but on strict adherence to the SMTP standards. It's also compatible with most SMTP extensions like STARTTLS (for SSL security) and SMTP-AUTH (for user authentication).
Tellmatic is a tool to manage and create newsletters for personalized mailing or mass mailing. Addresses and newsletters are stored in groups to handle different user groups and thousands of addresses at a time. SMTP is used for sending the newsletter to your subscribers to make sure you get all error and bounce messages. Bounces can be handled automagically via a small bounce-management module with POP3 access. It also has a small form-editor and statistics. You can import and export your addresses in CSV format.

smtpd is a lightweight mail server whose sole purpose is to receive incoming messages and deliver them to local users. Its main "feature" (or non-feature, really) is to be completely unable to relay messages to adjacent servers: if an incoming message is not addressed to a local mailbox, smtpd will reject it. Another convenient feature is its automatic grey-listing of clients that allows you to efficiently reject spammers based on their behaviour. It can handle incoming email traffic for an unlimited number of domains (i.e. act as a MX for these domains) without the need for any configuration (other than creation of users' mailboxes).
