Apache's mod_rewrite provides methods to map values to attributes using the directive RewriteMap. One not so well known feature of mod_rewrite is to extend this functionality with internal functions, which can be defined in a seperate Apache module. mod_icpquery is an Apache-2.0/2.2 compatible module that extends mod_rewrite by internal RewriteMap functions. It sends out a request as a UDP query to a list of Unicast or multicast addresses. This query conforms to RFC 2186, also known as ICP, and can be handled by various HTTP-caching servers such as squid. A cache-server handling ICP should reply to an ICP query with an ICP response indicating if it holds the desired object in its cache or not. This information can be further processed by mod_rewrite using its superb regex rules.

PhotoRescue will undelete pictures and other files lost on erased or corrupted media such as Compact Flash, Smartmedia, memory sticks, MMD, XD, MultiMedia, or Secure Digital memory cards. PhotoRescue supports the recovery of all file types, but its algorithms are particularly optimized for images in the JPEG, TIFF, GIF, and BMP formats. It also offers support for CRW, NEF, ORF, MRW, and many types of movie files. In some cases, it can rebuild pictures that have suffered minor corruptions. PhotoRescue even deals with cases where the filesystem on the media cannot be mounted.

Vx32 is a user-mode library that can be linked into arbitrary applications that wish to create secure, isolated execution environments in which to run untrusted extensions or plug-ins implemented as native x86 code. Vx32 is similar in purpose to the Java or .NET virtual machines, but it runs native x86 code, so plug-ins can be written in any language. Vx32 runs on unmodified x86 FreeBSD, Linux, and Mac OS X systems without special permissions, privileges, or kernel modules. It also runs on x86-64 Linux systems.
