SuperTux is a side-scrolling platform game. The hero in this game is Tux the Penguin, the game's only reference to Linux. On the journey to rescue Penny, who has been kidnapped by evil Nolok, Tux faces 23 different kinds of bad guys while jumping and running through 101 beautifully-drawn levels. Transcend can best be described as retro-style, abstract, 2D shooter. The graphics are geometrical, and the pace is sometimes frenzied. Two features set Transcend apart from other games. First, its dynamic graphical engine, which can smoothly morph from one complex shape to another in realtime, produces striking displays. Combining these dynamic shapes with subtle randomizations ensures that each new play through a level is visually different from the last. The second novel feature is the musical power-up system. As you play through a level, you are simultaneously assembling an abstract visual collage and arranging a unique piece of music.
ZAP is a team-based Internet multiplayer game with 2D retro-style vector graphics. The control scheme is patterned after the arcade classic Robotron. It uses the Torque Network Library for its network transport layer. It supports multiple game types (Capture the Flag, Soccer, Football, Hunters, Rabbit, Zapmatch), configurable ship powers, and support for voice recording and gamepad controllers (not on all platforms).
Py Connect Four is an implementation of the classic, two-player, Connect Four game. Each player has a color, either black or red, and they take turns putting their pieces in. The first player with four pieces in a row at any angle wins the round. It is completely written in Python, and uses the PyGame library with the SDL library.
simpleJ emulates a simplified computer on your PC: a retro-style video game console that lets you understand how a computer works and write your own video game programs. The first microcomputers were quite simple. They had a few kilobytes of memory and couldn't run large programs. Many didn't even have an operating system. Yet they had something valuable: understanding everything about their hardware and software was easy. simpleJ aims to make this possible while running on modern PC hardware.
