GNU TeXmacs is a free wysiwyw (what you see is what you want) editing platform with special features for scientists. The software aims to provide a unified and user friendly framework for editing structured documents with different types of content: text, mathematics, graphics, interactive content. TeXmacs can also be used as an interface to many external systems for computer algebra, numerical analysis, and statistics. New presentation styles can be written by the user and new features can be added to the editor using Scheme.
The GRASP Project has created an algorithmic-level graphical representation for software called the Control Structure Diagram (CSD). The CSD was created to improve the comprehension efficiency of Ada source code and, as a result, improve software reliability and reduce software costs. Since its creation, the CSD has been expanded and adapted to include other languages. GRASP provides the capability to generate CSD's from Ada 95, C, C++, Java, and VHDL source code in both a reverse and forward engineering mode with a level of flexibility suitable for professional application. GRASP has been integrated with the GNU family of compilers for Ada (GNAT) and C (gcc), and Sun's javac compiler for Java. Use of GRASP is not restricted to these compilers, however. This has resulted in a comprehensive graphically-based development environment for these languages. The user may view, edit, print, and compile source code as CSDs with no discernible addition to storage or computational overhead.
Slime UML (SLIm Modelling Environment) is a slim, fast, and powerful UML plugin the Eclipse platform. It makes it simple to document Java code, reverse-engineer existing source code, and visualise complex Java libraries, even without source, as well as perform modeling with use cases, packages, and class diagrams. It features drag and drop classes and packages from the Package Explorer, automatic layout of diagrams, multiple inheritance, diagram updates when the Java code changes, exporting to Word, EMF, and SVG formats, a class diagram wizard and diagram perspective for diagram creation, and much more.
Ccdoc is a Javadoc-inspired tool that automatically generates HTML Web documentation from C++ programs by parsing the source file headers. It was designed to aid the collaboration between package users and package developers. It runs on FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, and Windows (98, 2k, Me, and XP).
PHP Doc System allows developers to create modules for documentation elements (installation steps, buttons, screens, etc.) and then refer to them instead of having to copy/paste information they'd want to have in two or more places. It can run as dynamic PHP, including everything on the fly or it can output static HTML that can be included in a software distribution.
wyoGuide is a tutorial, a collection of guidelines for building cross-platform applications with a well-designed, consistent look and feel. It gives ideas and advice on how an application and its GUI could and should be written. Development with these guidelines gives the GUI of an application a standard set of base functionality. wyoGuide also provides sample code for each guideline written in C++ using the wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows) framework. For a seasoned developer it shouldn't be difficult to adapt these guidelines to other languages or frameworks.
Rambutan is a set of end-user applications software that assists a system analyst in the gathering and categorization of facts for a requirements specification document. In its current state, the product consists of two programs that perform similar functions. A handheld application is used to gather facts in the client's site while a desktop application is used to edit and further refine the requirement statements in the analyst's office. Both applications allow the user to enter, modify, and display data that make up a requirements specification document.
