GLE (Graphics Layout Engine) is a graphics scripting language designed for creating publication quality figures (e.g., a chart, plot, graph, or diagram). GLE supports various chart types (including function plot, histogram, bar chart, scatter plot, contour plot, color map, and surface plot) through a simple but flexible set of graphing commands. More complex output can be created by relying on GLE's scripting language, which is full featured with subroutines, variables, and logic control. GLE relies on LaTeX for text output and supports mathematical formulae in graphs and figures.
The Snack sound extension adds commands for sound play/record and sound visualization, e.g. waveforms and spectrograms. It supports in- memory sound objects, file based audio, streaming audio, WAV, AU, AIFF, and MP3 file formats, synchronous and asynchronous playback. The visualization canvas item types update in real-time and can output postscript. New commands and file formats can be added using the Snack C-API.
SaVi is satellite visualization software that lets you create, run, examine, and modify satellite orbits in two and three dimensions. Simulations of Iridium, Globalstar, Galileo, GPS, and other satellite constellations are included. SaVi requires Tcl and Tk on a system with Unix libraries. SaVi works well with the 3D renderer Geomview. Geomview is optional, though recommended for its 3D rendering capabilities.
OpenEXR is a high dynamic range (HDR) image file format developed by Industrial Light & Magic for use in computer imaging applications. It includes support for 16-bit floating-point pixels (compatible with NVIDIA's Cg shader language "half" datatype), several lossless compression algorithms, and extensible image metadata attributes.
The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in order to provide portable performance. It provides C and Fortran77 interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few routines from LAPACK.
PACT is a self-contained set of tools which support developing and using portable programs, particularly scientific and engineering applications. By defining a single, higher level, standard programming interface, it shields application developers from the plethora of different hardware architectures and operating systems and their non-standard features.
HPC Challenge is a collection of benchmarks for measuring various aspects of system performance, such as flop/s, sustainable memory bandwidth, memory read/write rates, network bandwidth, and latency for parallel machines. It is designed for supercomputers, but will run on any computer with MPI-1 (Message Passing Interface) implementation and BLAS (Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms).
Caudex is a distributed document/reference management system. Its features include support for BibTeX reference types, reference organization in hierarchical categories, BibTeX export, multiple attachments (eg PDF files) for each reference and a servlet-based Web interface with full-text search on the PDF attachments. It is optimized for offline work, and local reference collections can be synced with servers at any time. Multiple local storages are supported and can optionally be synced against different servers.
