Andromeda turns collections of MP3s into fully-featured streaming Web sites. Many other file formats are supported, including: WMA, OGG, MPG, AVI, and WMV. It can be used as a personal jukebox on a local network or over the Internet (bandwidth permitting). It works well with PHP-Nuke, PostNuke, and phpWebSite. Additional features include skins, custom playlists, logons/accounts, and a search tool. Andromeda is also multilingual, speaking English, German, Russian, Dutch, Spanish, and many other languages. No database is required. ASP and PHP versions are available.
BlogMatrix Sparks! is a streaming Internet radio program recorder and podcast receiver. Downloaded programs are converted (via Mplayer and LAME) into MP3s and stored in your media player (iTunes or Windows Media Player). It uses an interactive directory of thousands of radio stations and podcasts to help you find content. It runs on Windows, Macintosh OS 10.3, and Linux.
The FAAC project includes the AAC encoder FAAC and decoder FAAD2. It supports several MPEG-4 object types (LC, Main, LTP, HE AAC, PS) and file formats (ADTS AAC, raw AAC, MP4), multichannel and gapless en/decoding as well as MP4 metadata tags. The codecs are compatible with standard-compliant audio applications using one or more of these profiles.
IceGenerator is a direct stream generator for Icecast/Shoutcast servers. It streams MP3s to an Icecast/Shoutcast server without resampling it, saving CPU time. It features directory searches, MySQL/PGSQL support, M3U/PLS support, ID3 tags, META dynamic info, and a telnet interface.
The MP3 Streaming DownSampler for PHP is written with cable modem/DSL users with low upstream caps in mind. Using LAME, it dynamically downsamples a requested MP3 to a bitrate which can be streamed. It doesn't use temporary files, so you don't have to take the time to do any batching, and you just give it a directory with symlinks to your music in a place the Web server can reach. The interface is simplistic and fast, meant for immediate plug and play access.
MuSE is a user-friendly tool for network audio streaming, making life easier for independent free speech radio stations. It can play, mix, encode, and stream sound from and to the Internet in both MP3 and Ogg/Vorbis format to be listened by the majority of audio players. It can simultaneously mix up to 6 encoded audio channels plus a sound card input signal, sending the result to an Icecast/Shoutcast server. It offers GTK2, ncurses, and Carbon (OSX) interfaces for real-time operation and a full set of command line options.
Naiocast is a Web based streaming server, similar to SHOUTcast and Icecast. It currently supports MP3 audio streams only. It can be used to create an Internet radio station or a privately running jukebox. It requires neither expensive dedicated servers nor compilation on the target machine. The project includes: Naiocast Server, which accepts a stream sent from a computer and sends it to listeners over standard HTTP; and naioSC, which sends the audio stream to a Naiocast server to broadcast to clients. It runs typically in the place where the audio is generated.
