The mission of the Apache Portable Runtime (APR) project is to create and maintain software libraries that provide a predictable and consistent interface to underlying platform- specific implementations. The primary goal is to provide an API to which software developers may code and be assured of predictable if not identical behaviour regardless of the platform on which their software is built, relieving them of the need to code special-case conditions to work around or take advantage of platform-specific deficiencies or features.

Cocoa 3D Tutorial provides a Cocoa framework to interface the OpenGL library in a more OO-fashioned style. It is not meant to be the fastest code possible, nor to leverage all the power of OpenGL, but to give developers a easy way to start working in 3D.

DirectFB is a thin library that provides developers with hardware graphics acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, an integrated windowing system with support for translucent windows and multiple display layers on top of the Linux framebuffer device. It is a complete hardware abstraction layer with software fallbacks for every graphics operation that is not supported by the underlying hardware.

GTK, which stands for the Gimp ToolKit, is a library for creating graphical user interfaces. It is designed to be small and efficient, but still flexible enough to allow the programmer freedom in the interfaces created. GTK provides some unique features over standard widget libraries.

Grapple is designed to be a simple network layer, allowing the addition of multiuser features to an application for as little as a dozen lines of code. However, it also allows for more. It features simple client-server networking that keeps all clients aware of all other clients, passworded servers, and data transfer via TCP, UDP, or reliable UDP. Advanced features include network messaging via push, pull, or a combination, multiple methods of querying users, user groups for client bandwidth saving, network load reacting data transmission and retransmission, background pinging to monitor network states, server failover, and a fully functional lobby system.

MUSCLE (Multi User Server Client Linking Environment) is an N-way messaging server and networking API. It includes client-side networking APIs for various languages, including C, C++, C#, Delphi, Java, and Python. MUSCLE lets programs communicate over a network via streams of serialized Message objects. The included server program ("muscled") lets its clients message each other and store information in its server-side hierarchical database. The database supports flexible queries via hierarchical wildcarding, and "live" updates via a subscription mechanism.

OpenAIS is an open source implementation of the SA Forum (www.saforum.org) Application Interface Specification. The project currently implements APIs to improve availability by reducing MTTR. APIs available are cluster membership, application failover, checkpointing, eventing, distributed locking, messaging, closed process groups, and extended virtual synchrony passthrough. It is possible to write redundant applications that tolerate hardware, operating system, and application faults. Cluster software developers can write plugins to use the infrastructure provided by OpenAIS.
