minidb is a Python module that utilizes the SQLite3 database library in order to store and retrieve Python objects. It utilizes Python's __slots__ mechanism to determine the column names, and uses the class name for table names. Data is always stored as text in the database, but will be converted using the type specified in __slots__ (which therefore has to be a dict).
SMDB is a small, portable database library that exports an API similar that of GDBM and allows for the simple storage and retrieval of key/data couples. The library is totally system independent due to the use of externally supplied interface pointers. File locking is left to the caller, allowing single instance users to not pay the the price (in terms of performance and portability) of the locking framework. It supports transactions, multiple tables inside the same DB file, and is less than half the size of GDBM.
MySQL Workbench is a cross-platform, graphical database modeling tool for MySQL. It allows you to create database models from scratch as well as by importing existing databases from SQL or DBDesigner4 models. mysqlblasy is a Perl script for automating MySQL database backups. It uses "mysqldump" for dumping mysql databases to the files sytem. It was written with automated usage in mind. For example, it is silent during operation, and only produces noise on errors/problems. It rotates backups automatically to prevent the backup disk from getting full when the administrator is on vacation (or is lazy).
db.* is a database management system (DBMS) designed to provide powerful, flexible, high-performance capabilities for developing embedded database applications. By combining the network and relational model technologies in a single system, it lets you organize and access information efficiently, regardless of the complexity of the data. The database has a very small footprint and because it is possible to use the network model to store some of the data, it can be very fast. It is also well-documented and quite simple to learn because of its C-based API.
Spinneret is a structured storage engine that can be thought of as an extended tuple storage system. It takes the best aspects of relational, object, and hierarchical databases and throws away the dead weight associated with those technologies. The benefit of Spinneret is that its data model is incredibly flexible, allowing it to expose its underlying data in any number of ways. It operates similar to an object database, but without hard ties to an originating language, and can also behave like a relational database without the burden of complex joins.
