NetMess is a peer-to-peer file sharing system. Its advantages over other p2p systems include clone detection and the ability to work through an HTTP proxy and through most firewalls (both inbound and outbound). NetMess can also run in a LAN environment, serving as a nice information sharing system for small to middle-sized companies. NetMess allows its users to search and retrieve documents without having to remember their exact location.
CLIP is a Clipper/XBase compatible compiler with initial support other xBase dialects. It features support for international languages and character sets. It also features OOP, a multiplatform GUI based on GTK/GTKextra, all SIX/Comix features (including hypertext indexing), SQL and ODBC drivers, a C-API for third-party developers, a few wrappers for popular libraries (such as BZIP, GZIP, GD, Crypto, and Fcgi), a multitasking client and application server based on TCP/IP sockets, object data base utilities, and a functions library.
rs reads its input into an array of rows and columns, applies a specified transformation to the array, and writes it out with the specified number of rows and columns. It can be used to do column formatting and tidying of text, to transpose rows to columns and columns to rows (word-by-word, not character-by-character), and as a wrapper around line-oriented tools to let them handle multiline data. Rs is often distributed together with jot and lam, sometimes under the name bsd-utils.
The system call tracker is a Linux kernel module and supporting user space applications which allow interception of and possibly taking action upon system calls that match user-defined criteria. It allows you to set such rules as "tell me when someone tries to open /etc/passwd" and "if user '500' tries to connect to the network, fail the system call". It can also be thought of as strace on steroids.
SDL_sound is a library that handles the decoding of several popular sound file formats such as .WAV and .MP3. Designed to make the task of sound playback easier, SDL_sound accepts files or other input through an abstraction layer and returns the decoded waveform. SDL_sound can decode a whole sound file and hand back a single pointer to the waveform, or SDL_sound can process sound data in programmer-specified blocks when resource constraints are a concern. SDL_sound can also handle sample rate, audio format, and channel conversion on-the-fly.
