SaraB works with DAR (Disk ARchive) to schedule and rotate backups on random-access media (i.e. hard drives, CDs, DVDs, Zip, or anything else except magnetic tapes). It provides a powerful rotation schedule which allows administrators to create a custom rotation that fits the needs of their network. There is no need to worry about manually rotating, labeling, and properly storing the tapes. It supports the Towers of Hanoi, Grandfather-Father-Son, or any custom backup rotation strategy. It is easy to use and highly configurable.
S3QL is a file system that stores all its data online. It supports Amazon S3, Google Storage, and OpenStack and effectively provides you with a hard disk of dynamic, infinite capacity that can be accessed from any computer with Internet access. S3QL provides a standard, full featured Unix file system that is conceptually indistinguishable from any local file system. Additional features include compression, encryption, data de-duplication, immutable trees, and snapshotting, which make it especially suitable for online backup and archiving. The design favors simplicity and elegance over performance and feature-creep. Care has been taken to make the source code as readable and serviceable as possible. Solid error detection, error handling, and extensive automated test cases are provided.
osarchiver (Operating System Archiver) creates CD/DVD backup images, useful for operating system disaster recovery. It features compact size, utilization of already-present operating system functionality, multiple Red Hat version compatibility, multi-volume capability, parallel compression, and hardware flexibility.
Sshbak is very simple but powerful and secure remote backup utility. It performs a fast and comprehensible daily (usually) backup of multiple machines via remote SSH connections. The result is a simple set of tar+gzip files. It supports the backup of piped program output (allowing remote backup of mysqldump or pg_dumpall results), parallel backup of different machines, and more.
Dar is a shell command that makes backup of a directory tree and files. Its features include splitting archives over several files, DVD, CD, ZIP, or floppies, compression, full or differential backups, strong encryption, proper saving and restoration of hard links, extended attributes, file forks, Door inodes, and sparse files, remote backup using pipes and external commands (such as ssh), and rearrangement of the "slices" of an existing archive. It can run commands between slices, before and after saving some defined files or directories (for a proper database backup, for example), and quickly retrieve individual files from differential and full backups. Several external GUIs exist as alternatives to its CLI interface, like kdar, DarGUI, SaraB, etc.
Areca is a file backup system that supports data compression (zip / zip64 format) and encryption, incremental backups, FTP/SFTP file transfer, delta storage mode, and many other features. It includes a transaction mechanism, which guarantees the integrity of your backups. Two user interfaces are available: a command-line interface (useful for backup automation) and a graphical user interface (useful for backup administration).
luckyBackup is a powerful, fast, reliable, and fully customizable backup and sync tool. It can backup any directory (the source) to another (the destination). luckyBackup copies over only the changes you've made to the source directory and nothing more, saving a great deal of time for backups after the first one. Whatever changes you make to the source, including adding, moving, deleting, modifying files or directories, will have the same effect on the destination. Owner, group, time stamps, links, and permissions of files are preserved (unless directed otherwise). The synchronization feature works on any pair of directories, keeping the files that were most recently modified on both of them. It includes many safety checks to prevent accidental loss of data.
