init is the lightweight BSD-style init and syslog system used in Arachsys Linux. It includes a number of small utilities, including a minimal init, a wrapper for turning simple commands into well-behaved background daemons, and a simple but flexible syslog implementation. The design aim for this suite is to provide a toolkit of small components which can be joined together with standard shell scripting to produce a complete system, rather than the large, monolithic, inflexible daemons which are typical elsewhere. Despite the focus on minimalism, the init and daemon tools can be used to implement fast, parallel, dependency-based booting, and are used for this purpose in Arachsys Linux.
pmbw is a set of assembler routines to measure the parallel memory (cache and RAM) bandwidth of modern multi-core machines. Memory bandwidth is one of the key performance factors of any computer system. Today, measuring the memory performance often gives a more realistic view of the overall speed of a machine than pure arithmetic or floating-point benchmarks. pmbw contains a set of very basic functions which are all hand-coded in assembler to avoid any compiler optimizations. These basic functions are modeled after the basic inner loops found in any data processing, sequential scanning and pure random access. Any application will have a memory access pattern which is somewhere between these two extremes. The current version of pmbw supports benchmarking 16-, 32-, 64-, 128-, or 256-bit memory transfers on x86_32-bit, x86_64-bit, and ARMv6 systems.
wwan-helper is a script that establishes a UMTS connection using a Ericsson F3507g Mobile Broadband Module. It was designed to be used with a ThinkPad T420s. It takes care of resetting and reinitializing the modem if the hardware fails to get a WWAN connection, and retries as often as necessary until the UMTS connection is really established. It is meant to run as a hook script for the ifup / ifdown mechanism, but should also work on other networking systems.
MPDisco is a Node.js-based music server built to let teams and groups control a single music player together. Accessing an MPDisco server puts each user, after logging in, in a rotating DJ queue. Each user will be given one hour (by default) to control the playlist and music player.
