spim is a self-contained software simulator for running R2000/R3000 assembly language programs. It reads and can immediately execute files containing assembly language code. spim also provides a debugger and simple set of operating system services. spim provides both a simple, textual interface and a fancier, graphical interface. The package includes complete source code and documentation.
PLOTICUS is a command line utility for creating bar, line, pie, boxplot, scatterplot, sweep, heatmap, vector, timeline, Venn diagrams, and other types of charts and plots. ploticus is good for automated or just-in-time graph generation. It handles date, time, and categorical data nicely, and has some basic statistical capabilities. It can output to GIF, PNG, SVG, SWF, JPEG, PostScript, EPS, and X11. You can use convenient preset options or create complex scripts with rich and detailed color and style operations.
Racket (formerly PLT Scheme) is a programming language suitable for implementation tasks ranging from scripting to application development, including GUIs, Web services, etc. It includes the DrRacket programming environment, a virtual machine with a just-in-time compiler, tools for creating stand-alone executables, the Racket Web server, extensive libraries, documentation for both beginners and experts, and more. It supports the creation of new programming languages through a rich, expressive syntax system. Example languages include Typed Racket, ACL2, FrTime, and Lazy Racket.
GNU TeXmacs is a free wysiwyw (what you see is what you want) editing platform with special features for scientists. The software aims to provide a unified and user friendly framework for editing structured documents with different types of content: text, mathematics, graphics, interactive content. TeXmacs can also be used as an interface to many external systems for computer algebra, numerical analysis, and statistics. New presentation styles can be written by the user and new features can be added to the editor using Scheme.
TinySID is a very small SID player. Current features include 99% 6510 CPU emulation and fat 6581 SID emulation including filters (which sound different to other players). It has nothing to do with other projects such as SIDPlay, and the 6510/6581 emulation is based on routines by Tammo Hinrichs that have been further developed.
nwfiir and its accompanying software wfird allow design and use of a HiFi quality digital equalizer based on a WFIR filter (Warped Finite Impulse Response). It can take advantage of multiple processors, e.g. on a dual Pentium II 300 MHz it manages to run a two-channel equaliser with 275 taps, with 16 bit 44.1 kHz input, and 24 bit 44.1 or 88.2 kHz output. This is more than enough to very precisely equalize the whole audible range from 20 to 20000 Hz. The equalizer can be used as, and was designed for, a key component in a room equalization system. Non-realtime operation is also possible on slower machines.
Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed tunnel for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. This allows traffic such as telnet, FTP, and X to be protected from snooping as well as potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from compression.
makeself is a small shell script that generates a self-extractable compressed TAR archive from a directory. The resulting file appears as a shell script, and can be launched as is. The archive will then uncompress itself to a temporary directory and an arbitrary command will be executed (for example, an installation script). This is pretty similar to archives generated with WinZip Self-Extractor in the Windows world.
