parapin makes it easy to write C code under Linux that controls individual pins on a PC parallel port. This kind of control is very useful for electronics projects that use the PC's parallel port as a generic digital I/O interface. Parapin goes to great lengths to insulate the programmer from the somewhat complex parallel port programming interface provided by the PC hardware, and comes as a user-space C library, or linked as part of a Linux kernel module.
GramoFile is intended primarily for transferring gramophone records to CDs, but has many other possible uses. It can record very long .wav files with a bargraph signal peak-level meter, playback any part of the files, split long .wav files into separate tracks (with automatic track location), and process the signal with filters to reduce ticks and pops (multiple filters are provided, they can be applied in any order (multiple instances) with user-adjustable parameters). Track splitting and signal processing are done in the same run, and don't need any temporary files.
SLmon is a tool for monitoring a system's performance. It displays results using a nice and easily readable text-based UI. It has the ability to monitor CPU load (SMP is supported), memory/filesystems usage, network interfaces, uptime, date and time, and the number of logged in users.
The purpose of zdisk is to have a kernel of your choice and a rescue system on one floppy or cdrom disk. Zdisk copies a kernel of your choice to a floppy and puts a rescue system on the same floppy, creating a boot/rescue floppy. The kernel can't be more than 1070Kb in size. Ramf-117.exe at the same site has a similar rescue system, except it comes with a IDE kernel.
MAT is an easy-to-use network-enabled UNIX configuration and monitoring tool. It provides an integrated tool for many common system administration tasks, including backups, replication, and running commands on hundreds of machines at once. It includes a warning system for potential system problems, and graphing of many common system parameters. MAT provides many of the tools a system administrator needs during the day, including DNS, NIS, Backups, and Replication. One can run a MAT command on many hosts at once. A simple editor window is provided which can modify a set of machine's configurations in one session.
The IPchains Firewalling Module, part of the RockSolid Linux Distribution, allows you to easily maintain a firewall based on ipchains with the Webmin look and feel. It has three modes: Newbie (select one of five security levels), Template (define from a table with protocols and directions what should be allowed to pass your firewall), and Expert (have the real ipchains experience by having every parameter under control by editing a script file which has all ipchains rules). Nearly all of the ipchains options are supported.
