GoWeather displays an attractive representation the current weather conditions for a particular location, along with upcoming weather forecasts. The source of the data are small, text-based reports in a standard format (METAR and Zone Forecast (ZFP)) made available from an unchanging, reliable source (the National Weather Service (NWS)). GoWeather is FLTK-based, has a small form-factor, and the data files are very small and can be accessed offline. This means GoWeather is suitable for Linux handhelds (like the Agenda VR3 PDA).
Lingerd is a daemon designed to take over the job of properly closing network connections from an HTTP server like Apache. This frees Apache from doing the very boring but time-consuming job of "lingering closes", and lets each Apache process go on to the next connection immediately. The end result is that Apache needs fewer processes to handle high loads, which saves memory, reduces kernel contention, and generally makes Apache more scalable.
vines draws vines (wandering plants made up mostly of stems and leaves) on your X11 or SunView screen. By default it draws in black and white, but color options (spring and fall) are provided. The vines can grow across the top of your screen and down the side, down from the top of your screen until they reach the bottom, or start from the center and wander all over the screen forever.
w4ais is a gateway between a forms-capable Web browser and an indexing/search program, based on the old EIT wwwwais program. This new version is tested completely with swish 1.2 and above, and should still work with freeWAIS. This version allows easy and thorough customization of the search page look and feel, and includes help and various utilities to install and configure multiple interfaces for various users or sites on a single system.
SWISH stands for Simple Web Indexing System for Humans. With it you can index directories of files and search the generated indexes. Based on EIT's swish, this is a cleaner-compiling, enhanced version with better docs, better installation and configuration tools, more sample configurations, and a Web page to help manage index rebuilding. SWISH is used with w4ais as a Web-based front end.
