netfico is a complete Linux/netfilter (iptables) firewall and gateway configuration tool. It takes over the complete process of brining up the network interfaces, configuring VLANs, setting IP addresses, setting routes, and configuring the netfilter/iptables rules. This also means that there is just one central place where IP addresses and netmasks are configured. A central goal of netfico is to make handling of firewalls respective gateways with dual stacked (i.e. IPv4 and/or IPv6) hosts and a larger number of subnets easy and feasible.
netgviz is a set of scripts that allows you to easily make graphs illustrating layouts of computer networks at ISO/OSI layer 3. It parses a text file with a list of network nodes with their addresses and generates the data in dot format, which is suitable for a Graphviz set of tools. You can then use Graphviz to draw a graph illustrating the network topology.
Netjail is a user-space mechanism for restricting the socket connection attempts that a process makes. This makes it very useful for studying and/or foiling spyware and other software that has covert "home-calling" features. It is implemented as a shared library which is preloaded when launching the suspect program (via the LD_PRELOAD mechanism available in most moderm Unix systems). This library intercepts socket() and connect() calls to the standard socket library and logs the attempts. Based on environment variables, detailed rules can be put in place about which addresses will be allowed to connect. Connections that are disallowed will return the ECONNREFUSED (Connection Refused) error, which is most likely to be gracefully handled by hidden spyware functionality.
netjukebox is a Web-based media jukebox for MPD, VideoLAN, and Winamp/httpQ. It features realtime MP3 streaming from different audio formats. Users can download single tracks or a whole album in one zip file. It is also possible to batch-transcode the whole music collection to another format or bitrate without touching the original files.
ftp-ssl is similar to the standard FTP client and it interoperates with normal ftpd, but it uses SSL authentication and encryption. It checks if the other side is also talking SSL, and if not it falls back to the normal FTP protocol. Advantages over normal FTP include encryption of passwords and transmitted data, preventing network sniffers from acquiring secret information (most notably passwords).
netplugd monitors one or more network interfaces, running a script when their state changes. The monitored parameters are: whether the interface is interface up or down, whether the interface is running, and whether the link beat is detected (that is, a network cable is plugged in the adapter socket and the hub is on).
