Simulated annealing is a computational algorithm for optimization. It mimics the physical process of thermal annealing in which a metal is heated and then slowly cooled to settle into a highly ordered crystal structure. For common metals, the lowest energy state is already known. But the method is useful for other problems where the best state is not known and exhaustively searching all possible states is impractical. The method is applied by modeling the problem as a physical system with structure, energy, and temperature. This Python module implements simulated annealing so that it can be easily applied to a variety of problems. An example program is include to perform simulated annealing of the traveling salesman problem.

CF is a Linux/Unix command line utility for editing/managing AES-encrypted text files. Multiple users can edit the same files using their own separate passwords. It supports basic file locking, piping, adding, changing, removing, and listing keys. Editing sessions are as simple as typing "cf secretfile.cf"; CF asks for a password, decrypts the file, and starts an editor of choice. When the sessions ends, CF picks up the clear text and re-encrypts it. It takes care to let the clear files exist for as short periods of time as possible, and wipes them from memory and disk. It can be used for password management for single users or groups. It can also encrypt/decrypt streams when used in a pipe.

Pipadoc extracts extracts special comments out of source files or plaintext files and let one define rules how to bring them into proper order. This is somewhat similar to Literate Programming, but it puts the emphasis back to the code, since the source is not extracted from a given "literate text", but the documentation is extracted from the source and then the structure of the generated documentation is defined by the programmer. Pipadoc is programming language and documentation system agnostic, all it requires is that the programming language has some kind of line or block comments in one can place doc statements. It provides a plugin system where one can extend functionality. Some plugins for asciidoc, index generation, and verbatim code sections are provided.
