User-Mode Linux lets you run Linux inside Linux. It is a safe, secure way of running Linux versions and Linux processes. Run buggy software, experiment with new Linux kernels or distributions, and poke around in the internals of Linux, all without risking your main Linux setup. User-Mode Linux gives you a virtual machine that may have more hardware and software virtual resources than your actual, physical computer. You can assign your virtual machine only the hardware access you want it to have. With properly limited access, nothing you do on the virtual machine can change or damage your real computer or its software.
UserIPacct introduces a new policy mechanism that provides per-user IP statistics (measuring the user's IP usage). This package adds per user IP accounting to the Linux kernel, and contains programs to control and use this accounting data. Patches are available for the 2.0.39, 2.2.19, and 2.4.5 kernels.
SystemImager automates the installation of Linux to masses of similar machines. Software distribution, configuration, and operating system updates are made easy, including updates from one Linux release to another. It can also be used for content distribution on Web servers. It is most useful in environments with large numbers of identical machines. Some typical environments include Internet server farms, high performance clusters, computer labs, and corporate desktop environments where all workstations have the same basic hardware configuration.
VariCAD is a 3D/2D CAD system for mechanical engineering. In addition to standard tools for 3D modeling and 2D drafting, the CAD system provides tools for sheet metal unbending and crash tests, libraries of standard mechanical parts (ANSI, DIN) and symbols, mechanical part calculations, and tools for working with bills of materials (BOMs) and title blocks. VariCAD supports STEP, STL, IGES, DWG, and DXF file formats.
VeryNice is a tool for dynamically adjusting the nice level of processes under UNIX-like operating systems. It can also kill off runaway processes and increase the priority of multimedia applications, while properly handling both batch computation jobs and interactive applications with long periods of high CPU usage. Unlike most other process renice tools, VeryNice is not only capable of lowering a CPU-bound process's priority, but of raising the priority when the process is no longer heavily using the CPU.
