Ivman is a flexible userspace volume manager for Linux. Originally an automounter, it can also be used to run arbitrary commands when certain devices are added to or removed from the system, when properties on existing devices change, or when devices emit conditions. Unlike gnome-volume-manager, it runs from a console. It uses D-BUS and HAL to listen for new devices, and uses pmount for mounting.
The submount removable media handling system automatically mounts and unmounts removable media devices such as CDROMs, DVDs, and floppy drives. It is a two part system, with a small kernel module and a userspace program. It provides the same functionality as supermount, but (hopefully) avoids supermount's stability problems.
Hotplug lets you plug in new devices and use them immediately. That means that users won't need to learn so much system administration, since the Linux system will at least partially autoconfigure itself. Initially, hotplug included support for USB and PCI (Cardbus) devices, and could automatically configure some common network interfaces. Updated versions include IEEE 1394 (Firewire/i.Link) support and can download firmware to USB devices that need it.
i8krellm is a GKrellM plugin to control the fans on Dell Inspiron/Latitude notebook computers. It requires the Linux kernel module and i8kutils package found at http://www.debian.org/~dz/i8k/. It displays the current CPU temperature, mode indicator, and two animated fans. Temperature triggers can be set to cycle the fans off, low, or high speed.
Likwid is a set of easy to use command line tools for Linux. It supports programmers in developing high performance multi-threaded programs. "Likwid" stands for "Like I knew what I am doing". It contains the following tools: likwid-topology, which shows thread and cache topology; likwid-perfctr, which measures hardware performance counters on Intel and AMD processors; likwid-features, which shows and toggles hardware prefetch control bits on Intel Core 2 processors; likwid-pin, which pins a threaded application without touching its code (it supports pthreads, Intel OpenMP, and gcc OpenMP), likwid-powermeter which prints the Turbo mode steps and measures energy consumption on supported Intel processors, and likwid-bench, a low level benchmarking framework. It works with any standard Linux kernel. Likwid is lightweight and adds no overhead during measurements.
Gemu is a Gnome application designed to configure sound cards based on the EMU10K1 platform from Creative Labs. Gemu is capable of adding, viewing and deleting audio routes, turning on Live Drive IR, turning on the 12db boost to the front/headphone jacks on Live cards, setting the S/PDIF frequency on Audigy cards, setting the recording source, turning on digital passthrough mode, setting to the analog or digital mode of the dual-mode jack of 5.1 cards, adding and seeing patches for sources and destinations, and controlling volume on a per-route basis or by source or destination.
