bcnu is a Web-based system management tool which delivers information on the status of networked systems in a simple and easy-to-use manner. It uses a web browser to display information about hosts in a tabular form. Historical information can be held indefinitely, and there is a powerful query tool available to interrogate it. Client systems can run an agent which logs information back to a central system. An agent scheduler is integrated to allow agents to be run at different intervals. Standard agents include ftp, http, disk space, logfiles, processes, and more.

Berkeley DB (libdb) is a programmatic toolkit that provides embedded database support for both traditional and client/server applications. It includes b+tree, queue, extended linear hashing, fixed, and variable-length record access methods, transactions, locking, logging, shared memory caching, database recovery, and replication for highly available systems. DB supports C, C++, C#, Java, PHP, and Perl APIs. It supports key-value pair (NoSQL), SQL, and Java Object formatted data. The mgetty package contains an intelligent getty for allowing logins over a serial line (such as through a modem) and receiving incoming faxes. The companion program sendfax is used for sending faxes from the commandline or from other applications. The third main component is vgetty/vm which can be used with a voice-capable modem to implement an answering machine, a voice menu system, and similar things.

Net::FTPServer is a full-featured, secure, extensible, and highly configurable FTP server which can serve files from a standard file system or a relational database. It is written in Perl, which provides natural protection against buffer overflows. It has feature parity with popular C-based servers such as wu-ftpd. The server offers virtual hosts (IP-based and experimental IP-less). It is configurable in Perl, for both small Perl "hacks" in the configuration file all the way up to complete server "personalities". It supports the latest RFCs and Internet Drafts. Authentication may be done through /etc/passwd, PAM or an authentication plug-in. Resource limits are supported. The server may run standalone or from inetd. chroot() jails are supported along with sophisticated programmable access control rules. All aspects of server use and configuration are comprehensively documented in a manual running to some 50 pages.
