The file check daemon monitors files according to rules defined in configuration files. When a file is considered stable (due to its age, presence of a flag file, etc.) then it gets copied to a new location. Rotating backups of the destination file can be made and owner, group and permissions can be specified for the destination. Some examples of where this utility has been found to be useful are: Moving files out of an incoming FTP directory in a timely manner. Moving files uploaded to a web server into directories with different user/group. This lets the administrator run the web server as a non-root user and accept uploads using web server based authentication and then move the files to a more secure area after the transfer. The details of how to determine whether a file is stable and what to do with it once it is are defined in a "Filespec" configuration file. There is a separate filespec for each file that will be monitored which means that each file can have unique behavior associated with it.
MapServer is a CGI based Web mapping application development tool. It processes user defined configuration files and templates to allow for a wide variety of applications to be developed, including interactive mapping, and spatial query definition and processing. It supports several data formats. Key features include scale dependent map rendering, automatic scalebar and legend building, feature labeling with collision avoidance, logical and thematic classifications, and on-the-fly projection of raster and vector data. The application can also access other WMS servers as a cascading map server.
Payload Delivery Vehicle (PDV) is a program that builds an executable that contains a complete package (e.g. and RPM, System V package or tar file) and the commands required to install it. When the executable is run it will extract the payload (the package) and then execute another command (such as rpm -i, pkgadd -d etc.). The big advantage to this is that a developer can hand a user a single file to be executed - the end user does not need to know how to extract the package or get it installed.
