The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture is composed of several parts. The first is a fully modularized sound driver which supports module autoloading, devfs, isapnp autoconfiguration, and gives complete access to analog audio, digital audio, control, mixer, synthesizer, DSP, MIDI, and timer components of audio hardware. It also includes a fully-featured kernel-level sequencer, a full compatibility layer for OSS/Free applications, an object-oriented C library which covers and enhances the ALSA kernel driver functionality for applications (client/server, plugins, PCM sharing/multiplexing, PCM metering, etc.), an interactive configuration program for the driver, and some simple utilities for basic management.

The Jogdial Patch integrates the jogdial package for Sony Vaio Notebooks with the Imwheel package. This patch makes it possible to use the jogdial (a kind of mouse wheel which is built into certain Vaio notebooks) in all X applications to scroll up and down or to deliver arbitrary keystrokes to X applications. The patch works well with the picturebook Sony Vaio PCG-C1XD and might work with other notebooks with a jogdial.

cmictl sets some internal parameters of CMI 8338/8738-based sound cards. It allows you to utilize the S/PDIF out of your card. cmictl can control S/PDIF-in, S/PDIF-out, S/PDIF-loop, S/PDIF-monitor (SPDIF-in to Analog-out), S/PDIF-out voltage (5V / 0.5V), and S/PDIF frequency (48kHz / 44kHz).
