C-Cramp (the C-Cramp College Radio Audio Management Program) is a Web-based frontend to MySQL for managing the types of things that small radio stations might need: audio files, data, and "metadata"; DJ and staff information, schedules, live music and program logs, and all sorts of other data. Currently, a cross-platform PHP application is the focus of the project, but more features and types of programs are planned that will hopefully enable easier playback, storage, loading, and entering for all types of applicable data.
Open Administration for Schools (OAfS) is a Web-based school administration package. Open Admin does demographics, attendance, discipline, report cards, and has an online gradebook and parent viewing function. It is designed for elementary, K-12, and high schools. It generates plain HTML and uses LaTeX for PDF generation. It also includes special education and division-wide central office modules (all schools run on the same server with different virtual sites; two sites per school, one for teachers, and one for the office). Parent functions are by separate parent/school site.
LON-CAPA (The LearningOnline Network with CAPA) is a learning content and course management system. It offers an underlying shared content pool from which instructors across departmental and institutional boundaries can assemble granular learning content for their courses. It has strong assessment capabilities, both formative (homework and in-class using wireless PDAs) and summative (online and bubblesheet exams), with a one-source multiple-target strategy for the content. It offers students portfolio space in which they can stage materials for submission to projects, and provides a number of tools for synchronous and asynchronous student-student and student-faculty communication. LON-CAPA scales well with number of students, as load-balancing is possible across the whole network of servers at participating institutions.
DIASER is a cloud storage class combined geo-data replication, long-term archive system, and WAN vault application. Manage long term mixed data archives generated by existing backup software. Ensure availability using commodity hardware. Retain administrative and financial control. It combines a disk-based backup volume management system and triple redundancy with a storage architecture designed to structure months to years of long term sustainable archiving space. It is a quick and low-cost way to make an environment more robust by backing up data in multiple places. This replication also provides fast retrieval of archived data from all node hosting locations. A Perl installer creates the system. Nodes can be dedicated to storage or used for existing services over unused bandwidth. DIASER works in user space over SSH.
Visual Paradigm for UML is a Unified Modeling Language (UML) design tool that supports all UML diagrams, SysML diagrams, and entity relationship diagrams. Visual Paradigm for UML provides extensive use case modeling features, including full function UML use case diagram, flow of events editor, use case/actor grid, and activity diagram generation. Visual Paradigm for UML produces system documentation in PDF, HTML, and MS Word formats. A developer can design system documentation with the template designer. A system analyst can estimate the consequences of changes with impact analysis diagrams, such as matrix and analysis diagram. Visual Paradigm for UML generates Java code.
WordFlashReader is a Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) program useful to anyone who has an electronic text or book they wish to read. This program works with text files, HTML files, and PDF files. WordFlashReader works by flashing each word of the text sequentially on the screen (pausing for punctuation). Not only is this way of reading off of a computer screen more comfortable on the eyes than the normal method, but also after a little practice you may discover that you can read at multiple times the speed you normally do.
PhiloLogic is a full-text database engine developed for humanities computing text analysis by the ARTFL Project and the Digital Library Development Center at the University of Chicago. It is optimized for fast searching across very large collections of documents. It currently supports TEI-Lite, TEI XML, and TEI SGML documents.
McStas is a computer program (written in C) that enables you to model very precisely a neutron instrument described as a series of various components. A source component shoots each neutron randomly (Monte-Carlo), and the particle is then propagated through the different instrument components. These later act on the neutron characteristics (position, speed, direction, spin, etc.). Usually, one installs some detectors along the neutron path to monitor its characteristics and flux.
