RPhoto is a handy image editor to simplify cropping of digital camera pictures and avoid white borders introduced by incorrect height/width ratios. It also has lossless rotate and flip features, as well as a unique way to rectify a bad angle by only drawing a horizontal or vertical line.
zufall is a simple program to change the background periodically. It takes one or more directories with images as a parameter (no GUI) and sets a randomly chosen image as background. If there is a border remaining, its color is the average color of two corners of the image. This mostly fits the image very well. It doesn't work if the root window is hidden by another program, like in Gnome or KDE. However, it is possible to execute a configurable command to effect the change whenever the image is supposed to change. A script to do this in Gnome is included.
Fotoxx navigates an image collection using a thumbnail browser to choose images to view or edit. Edit functions include brightness, contrast, color, gamma, white balance, tone mapping, red eyes, sharpen, blur, noise suppression, smart erase, trim (crop), resize, rotate, add text, bend/warp, many art effects, HDR, HDF, stack, and panorama. Edit functions use movable curves and sliders. Feedback is live using the whole image. RAW files can be edited and saved with deep color. Areas or objects can be selected using freehand draw, follow edge, and tone matching. Selections can be edited in place with adjustable blending. They can also be cut and pasted into other images. Any metadata can be edited, reported, and searched (filenames, tags, dates, geotags, comments, captions, ratings, etc.). Collections (arbitrary subsets) can be defined and viewed. Batch functions are available for rename, resize/export, RAW conversion, and more.
digiKam is an advanced digital photo management application that makes importing and organizing digital photos a trivial task. Metadata can also be stored inside pictures using Exif and IPTC.
