Open School Admin (OSA) is a Web-based school administration system primarily focused on ease of use and access to school information. It has been in continuous use and development for the past 7 years. It manages all aspects of school administration: student enrollment, class scheduling, mark reporting, attendance, user accounts, and room booking. Through the use of various plugins, it also manages email announcements (including automated attendance notices), government reporting, dorm room management, Alumni relations, etc. It is a standalone application written using a Perl/MySQL back end. It requires a Web server (Apache/Lighttpd tested) and should run out of the box on any Unix system. While OSA itself is very mature, the installation and setup is still a young and evolving process.
The eXtensible Binary Universal Protocol (XBUP) project is an attempt to design a general binary communication protocol and file format. It is based on the unlimited unary-binary encoding and strongly typed block tree structure. It will provide a catalog service and processing infrastructure.
libefgy is a set of C++ headers containing lots of templates loosely related to maths. The headers include templates for fractional arithmetic, big integers (and thus "big fractions"), calculating π, e, and some calculations with those (for trigonometrics), matrix manipulations, tuples, polar and Euclidian spaces in arbitrary dimensions, (perspective) projections, colour space manipulations in RGB and HSL, and assorted other things.
HEALPix is a set of scientific tools implementing the Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelation of the sphere. As suggested in the name, this pixelation produces a subdivision of a spherical surface in which every single pixel covers the same surface area. HEALPix provides various programs and libraries in C, C++, Fortran, GDL/IDL, Java, and Python which facilitate discretization, simulation, processing, analysis, and visualization of data on the sphere up to very high resolution. It is the state-of-the-art program used in astronomy and cosmology to deal with massive full-sky data sets.
WMTime is a Window Maker dock app that displays the time and date and gives you some nice additional features too. It provides a realtime morphing interface (analog <> digital mode), auto-scaled and anti-aliased hands, localization that displays the day and date in various languages, and three user-defined launch commands.
Wenity is a multi-platform Zenity clone that helps (shell) script writers to interact with their users through various types of GUI dialogs. Scripts call Wenity and receive the user's selection in the exit code/response file. It supports any operating system with Java and a GUI installed, supports complex return types by using response files, and has a modular architecture supporting different functions: simple dialogs (user input, information, question, error/warning), progress indicator dialogs, system tray notifications, file choosers, and file viewers (text and HTML).
Simple Workflow is a workflow engine. It is simple to use (you need to call only two methods and implement one interface), written in Java 7, uses a simple domain language to describe workflows, can be used with any storage backend (SQL, NoSQL, file, etc.), can be used with any frontend, and has a high level of backend/frontend abstraction.
garith is a game similar in spirit to BSD's "arithmetic" or TuxMath. The game asks you to perform a simple arithmetic operation within a certain time frame. It improves your skills by stressing the operations you get more frequently wrong or that longer to answer. The statistics are saved/restored across games, so that each game is tuned for your current arithmetic abilities.
