For users on Linux and Unix, KDE offers a full suite of user workspace applications which allow interaction with these operating systems in a modern, graphical user interface. This includes Plasma Desktop, KDE's innovative and powerful desktop interface. Other workspace applications are included to aid with system configuration, running programs, or interacting with hardware devices. While the fully integrated KDE Workspaces are only available on Linux and Unix, some of these features are available on other platforms. Glossword is a system to publish dictionaries, glossaries, and encyclopedias. It features an installation wizard, support for multiple languages, visual themes, multi-domain installation, an administrative interface with multi-user support, built-in search and cache engines, the ability to export/import dictionaries in XML format, and W3C-validated code. Glossword is useful for any sort of dictionary-like content, including sites with game cheat codes, online translators, references, and various kinds of CMS solutions.
FileManager is a secure (SSL), multi-user, and Web- based program for file, directory, and remote command management. It is written in Perl, for Linux and Unix-like operating systems. It displays full directory information; allows file viewing, deleting, renaming, uploading, downloading, etc.; assists in directory navigation; and can execute any command for which the user account has privilege. FileManager also comes with a built-in text editor for quick editing and file updates.
Google Gadgets for Linux provides a platform for running Google Gadgets under Linux, catering to the unique needs of Linux users. It's compatible with the gadgets written for Google Desktop for Windows as well as the Universal Gadgets on iGoogle. There are two main components to the application: one is a common gadget library responsible for running and presenting a gadget, and the other is a host program that allows the user to choose gadgets and run them on the desktop. Currently it has hosts written for GTK+ and Qt, with the GTK+ host offering a sidebar similiar to that of Google Desktop for Windows.
SwiXAT is a Swing-based authoring tool for the quick and easy development of GUI Java applications. It implements a true MVC framework and uses XML to define the view (SwiXML is used as the XUL engine), BeanShell as a scripting language for the controller, and JXPath as the binding mechanism between the view and model. It provides a complete environment in which it is possible to almost write an entire Java Swing application without writing Java compiled code. The use of XPath makes it very simple to traverse the object tree of the application's business model.
