OWFS (One Wire Filesystem) allows easy control of the 1-Wire bus under Linux. The bus can either be viewed in a Web browser (OWHTTPD) or as files (OWFS). This makes manipulating the 1-wire devices easy with shell scripts, Perl, C, and other programming languages. 1-Wire devices are intriguing chips made by Dallas Semi. They are cheap, uniquely numbered, and take minimal wiring to connect (a data/power line and ground are all that's required. Chip functions include memory, switches, counters, and sensors of temperature and voltage.
Sambascan2 allows you to search an entire network or a number of hosts for SMB shares. It will also list the contents of all public shares that it finds. The difference between sambascan2 and other SMB viewers and scanners is that it will scan everything using TCP/IP, and it will not send a lot of broadcast messages, so it can be used over LAN boundaries. It only uses Samba to scan the shares and their contents. It can also scan known hosts and search indexed files.
mochad is a TCP gateway daemon for the X10 CM15A RF (radio frequency) and PL (power line) controller, the CM15Pro RF and PL controller, and the CM19A RF controller. The CM15Pro is the EU version of the CM15A. PL support includes extended dim and status query. Standard RF modules such as motion sensors and remote controls are supported. DS10A and MS10A RF security modules are supported. Ninja pan/tilt camera mounts can be controlled from mochad. The command line interface is well-suited for CGI scripts and cron jobs. mochad works well on embedded Linux systems such as OpenWRT and Chumby, so a PC is not required for always-on applications.
Thinux is a thin-client server on a live CD. It boots a network of diskless computers to automatically start an application such as a Web browser. Each thin client machine acts as a cluster node to share its processing and memory resources with each other to take the load off the server. Project Utgard is a sub-project of the openSCADA project. It's focused on creating a completely Java and open source OPC interface for the openSCADA project. In order to create clean interfaces between both worlds, a separate project was created which only covers OPC specific functionality which can also be used outside openSCADA to create OPC software.
PalmOrb is software that allows you to use your PalmOS device as an LCD status display for your computer. You can display system stats (such as CPU load graphs, CPU temperatures, free disk space), news alerts, stock indexes, WinAmp graphs, etc. It works by pretending to be (or emulating) a real LCD (a Matrix Orbital LK204-25). You can use existing software that expects a Matrix Orbital display.
This Java Client demonstrates the simplicity of creating a remote control Web-based client/server for home automation control with the WiSH x10dev drivers. The package includes a socket server which runs on the same machine as the x10dev drivers.
