iloog is a Gentoo-based live CD targeted mainly at students and scientists. It features UnionFS filesystem support that enables you to write everywhere on the LiveCD and install extra packages, a graphical X environment through the Fluxbox window manager, many programming editors and IDEs, and a plethora of scientific applications, including Octave, Namd, Merlin, and full (La)TeX support.
FluxBat is an ACPI based battery monitor for the fluxbox window manager. It includes two parts: a daemon process that runs the update script and the update script itself. The whole software contains only about 100 lines of code and is easy to use by including only one line in the menu configuration file of fluxbox.
GFreqlet is a GNOME applet for Linux that not only monitors CPU frequency scaling, but also allows the end user to change the frequency or governor with just a click. It automatically detects which frequencies and governors your processor supports, so there is no configuration required. The applet itself is not run as root, nor required to modify to run with root ownership, but password prompts with gksudo if a superuser action is required. GFreqlet is very straightforward and minimal, and just does what it's supposed to.
Lapsus was created to provide easy access to additional features of various laptops. Currently there exists support for Asus and IBM laptops, but IBM support is still highly experimental. It is possible to control a laptop's LED status, wireless, touchpad, and Bluetooth devices, brightness of the LCD, and sound volume. These features must be supported by either the asus-laptop kernel module from the acpi4asus project or the ibm-acpi driver.
thinkpad-status is a GUI interface to IBM ThinkPad laptop setup. It has been tested on IBM ThinkPad Lenovo Z60m. With its simple interface, you can control and change some settings on an IBM ThinkPad laptop, such as CPU power saving and scaling setup. It also lets you check battery status, thermal status, fan speed, ThinkLight settings, and LED status. Some of these features can also be used on other laptops.
driveplugger is a removable storage manager that safely puts control into the hands of the user. It makes devices such as USB drives, CDROMs, or any other removable media easy to use. The user can assign names to devices. Browsing, ejection, and other operations can be done through a tray icon.
