LEPL is a recursive descent parser library written in Python. It is based on parser combinator libraries popular in functional programming, but also exploits Python language features. Operators provide a friendly syntax, and the consistent use of generators supports full backtracking and resource management. Backtracking implies that a wide variety of grammars are supported; appropriate memoisation ensures that even left-recursive grammars terminate.

The Heirloom Documentation Tools provide troff, nroff, and related utilities to format manual pages and other documents for output on terminals and printers. They are portable and enhanced versions of the respective OpenSolaris utilities, which descend from ditroff and the historical Unix troff. troff provides advanced typographical features such as kerning, tracking, and hanging characters. glark offers grep-like searching of text files, with very powerful, complex regular expressions (e.g., "/foo\w+/ and /bar[^\d]*baz$/ within 4 lines of each other"). It also highlights the matches, displays context (preceding and succeeding lines), does case-insensitive matches, and automatic exclusion of non-text files. It supports most options from the GNU version of grep.

It is designed to simulate the environment of the commands being executed, so that if a person types 'du', 'df', 'ping', etc. in their shell it will automatically color the output in real-time according to a definition file containing the color format desired. It has support for wildcard match coloring, tokenized coloring, headers/footers, case scenario coloring, command-line- dependent definition coloring, and includes over 50 pre- made definition files.
