Blender is a free 3D animation studio. It includes tools for modeling, sculpting, texturing (painting, node-based shader materials, or UV mapped), UV mapping, rigging and constraints, weight painting, particle systems, simulation (fluids, physics, and soft body dynamics and an external crowd simulator), rendering, node-based compositing, and non linear video editing, as well as an integrated game engine for real-time interactive 3D, and game creation and playback with cross-platform compatibility.
Mondriaan produces a set of images that look a lot like the paintings of the artist Piet Mondriaan. By way of selection and genetic operators this set can be manipulated by you. You can try to find images that you think look even more like Mondriaan art, or search for images you find attractive.
The WorldForge Project is developing a complete, distributable framework for massively multiplayer online roleplaying games. The system will include a number of fully developed roleplaying worlds with unique maps, histories, creatures and legends. To run these worlds on the servers a balanced but highly customisable set of roleplaying rules is being developed. Provisions will be made to allow others the ability to recode the servers to use alternate rule sets. A standard protocol named Atlas is being developed to allow a common communication layer between clients, servers, and associated tools. s3d is an XML schema for 3d scenes, objects, and so forth (intended primarily but not exclusively for computer games). The problem is that often as a games developer you need to work with many 3d editing tools and rendering engines, and there should be an easy and portable way to move objects, levels, etc. around. By having a common intermediate file format, you only need to write one exporter per tool and one importer per graphics engine. Also, you can develop generic tools which are not tied to any particular engine.
Holtz is an implementation of the abstract strategy games Zèrtz and Dvonn from the GIPF project. Zertz is about placing and capturing marbles on a shrinking board. Dvonn is about moving stacks of pieces. The higher the stack, the faster it moves, so the tension increases until the very end. Holtz allows playing locally, over a TCP/IP network, or against a rudimentary AI. It also offers some user hints for an easy start into the game.
TuxKart is a 3D GoKart racing game with several famous OpenSource mascots participating. The game uses PLIB and OpenGL, and is portable to a wide range of OS's. There are several racecourses provided, with full information on how to add your own. Except for a few minor details, this game is essentially complete, and very playable.
Ren'ai/Dating Simulation Engine is derived from a type of computer game from Japan. The player controls a point of view (POV) game character, who interacts with other game characters in the hopes of winning the love of one of them. So far all of these games are closed source, and none have been translated into English. The Ren'ai includes a cross platform, internationalized game engine, on which dating sim type games can be played, plus an English based game to play on that engine.
